How can one be demoralized when one has no morals?

" We have more takers than makers and it's over. There is no hope," Coulter said.

I have encountered this pearl of Wisdom from A** C**lter repeatedly in the past 36 glorious, life-affirming, inspiring, wonderful, laugh-out-loud, hours. And I am waiting for someone to explain to me:

WHAT THE F**K DOES A** F**KING C**LTER ACTUALLY MAKE???????

Sadly, that's the way the Republican pundits are spinning this election. They admit demographics have changed, that America has changed. But instead of trying to change their views, they're writing everything off. They're throwing their hands in the air and saying, 'Well, I dunno what to do with this.'

Actually, that's kind of fine. They can get out of the way and let people who live in the real world deal with it. Maybe they're a dying party like the Whigs, or maybe there is a group of reasonable Republicans who can articulate a vision that is not based on fear of the other, because as of now, there are more others than white men to scare into carrying them.

That Huffpost piece addresses one of the Great Mysteries for me. Some of these "people" are articulate and--in their way--seemingly intelligent. How can they support such idiocy? I understand greed and selfishness, but thoughtful analysis of the issues should reveal to them that the Tea-Bag platform will not--in the long run--enrich anyone. It will destroy this nation.

So--are they really all just performers? Hate-mongering actors who know how to whip the gullible and uneducated masses into a [choose any that apply] homophobic/ racist/ misognynistic /anti-Semitic frenzy as a means to selling radio/TV/print advertising? Is the conservative movement all just dinner theater?

Or do they believe?

It appears that A** C**lter, at least, does not believe.

It doesn't make her better--it makes her a hate-mongering, hypocritical C**T--but at least it's a narrative I can understand.

To be as intelligent as she appears to be and espouse such foolishness makes no sense. To be as intelligent as she appears and to craft a phony persona in order to manipulate and profit off of stoopid, gullible rednecks makes sense.

It's hateful, but it makes sense.

Bill O'Reilly is well-educated and, by all accounts, very intelligent.

I honestly believe that Coulter, O'Reilly, and many others are just swindlers. They perform for a very willing and gullible audience.

I agree with you, Addison, when it comes to Ann. I think as she's become less relevant over the past few years, her tactics have seemed more desperate and, frankly, nutso, which adds strength to your argument.

My prediction: By the 2016 election, the GOP will split into two separate parties: The "New" Republican Party, which will have a center-right, pro-business, pro-immigration, pro-military orientation, and the "New" Tea Party, which will be the same as the current Tea Party, only crankier and more doctrinaire.

The "New" Republican Party will attempt to woo middle-class and well-to-do Hispanics and centrist Democrats.

They will also attempt to siphon away gays, women and anyone else who was scared away from the GOP by the far right.

The "New" Tea Party will continue to elect local politicians send Bachmann/Santorum types to Congress, but they will never get more than 20% of the vote in any national election.

My follow-up prediction:

Both the "New Republicans" and the "New" Tea Partiers will go down in flames--crushed by the relentless Juggernaut of the Clinton campaign!

If the 'New Republicans' have modern social views, they would be a force, and the Tea Party would be marginalized.

I'm with Kad. Coulter and her ilk are performers. I don't for one hot second believe that any of them really give a **** about any of it. It's ratings, money, and smoke & mirrors.

What makes them so odious isn't their absolute dis-ingenuousness, you can find that on both sides of the aisle, it's that they have no regard for the fact that their words cause emotional pain. They transcend hyperbole and exist in a realm where consequences don't matter. Or if they do then they're to be exploited for personal gain.

So quite frankly it wouldn't bother me at all if AC was so despondent that she put a gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger.
But that would never happen because, as with everything else that she pukes up, her despondence is manufactured and ersatz.

She is an amoral bitch on the same playing field as Fred Phelps.

Tazber, I would make one switch and start with, "it's money, ratings...."

All those Fox pundits spewing their garbarge and getting paid a boat load of money to do it.

And there NO consequences for their actions.

Even when they've been selling millions of Americans a bill this whole election cycle. Even when they call the President retarded. No matter what they say or do, they are allowed to keep doing it.

There's that old Republican argument, "We don't REALLY listen to or believe Coulter/Limbaugh/Savage et al." But their books get sold and their ratings hold steady. People tune in, people watch, people buy into them. People believe what they say and think they are speaking out of wisdom or knowledge. Meanwhile, these hucksters laugh their way to the banks.

And why not? No one stops it.

Fact: Rush Limbaugh cares not one whit about politics. He is an entertainer paid to generate listeners for his advertisers. He will gay bash and then pay Elton John a million dollars to perform at his wedding. He spends hours hailing Ronald Reagan as the greatest man in history but never actually voted for him. He never voted at all until sometime in the late 90's and I seriously doubt he roused himself to cast a ballot for Mitt Romney.

I am CERTAIN Coulter is the same.

She can't even get basic facts right--or admit when she's wrong. This video of her claiming Canada supported the US and sent troops to Vietnam seems to be posted every few months on facebook by my other Canadian friends

The more the GOP deny reality, the more they will lose. Let them keep on keeping on.

I agree w/ everything PJ wrote above.

While I rarely agree with Ann Coultergeist, her post-election roundup at the link was spot on except her claim that Romney was the perfect GOP candidate. Nice guy...but wrong person to lead the GOP to victory across the board.

Excerpt: "Obama was working Ohio from the moment he became president. Meanwhile, Romney didn’t wrap up the primaries until the end of May."

"Nice guy..."

No, not a nice guy. Standard issue Mormon patina of nice, but a truly mean spirited man. And it seeped out in so many ways and people saw it and people did not buy it in the end.

"If we don't Chris Christie, Romney will be the nominee and we'll lose." -- Ann Coulter 2010

Why has she given up hope now when she'd felt this coming for the last 2 years?
