Given his internalized homophobia, however, he may just be like a lot of closeted men: his sexual development was both at its peak and also arrested around that age. He hid his real attraction to blend in, was never satisfied by any relationship or sexual connection since, and places all excitement and enjoyment on the time of life he had to leave a while ago. So his objects become young men of that age.

Yes. It refers to men who have relations with boys, usually with the boy as a passive partner.

Pederasty is just more specific since it usually refers to anal sex between men and boys. Pedophilia is any kind of sexual relation between an adult and a child. So pederasty is a type of pedophilia.

There you go. I was simply confusing the actual definition of the two. Pedophilia is the general one, pederasty is the same sex one. Is there a similar term for women of such disparate ages? That definitely seems less common...

I believe TX is referring to ephedaphilia (or something like that...can't remember the exact name). It refers to adult men who are attracted to and wish to have sexual relations with males who are in or just past puberty...say 14-18. These kids show some physical characteristics of manhood, so it's not exactly the same as pederasty or pedophilia. It's a weird area becuase, yes, an older man could certainly exert pressure over the younger man. But if, when I was 16, I found a hot 30-year-old to have sex with, I totally would have. And not felt bad about it.

I think it is actually an important distinction. I believe there is a big difference between a grown man who wants to have sex with a child and a grown man who wishes to have sex with a 16-17-year-old.

THAT SAID...I do not condone the relationships of grown, seemingly-mature men with high school-aged young men. And as many of you have come to guess, I can't stand anyone under the age of 26 anyway! Insert winking emoticon here.

There's a VERY interesting film just released, I think only in limited distribution. Called "Mysterious Skin." All about pedophilia. Apparently, it paints at least one of the boys as a willing and even eager participant. And it sounds completely enthralling.

I just took a final about some of these issues, so I had my notes out with the clinical definitions. There's no distinction between the gender of the child in these two terms:

Ephebephilia- attraction to children who have just passed puberty

Pedophilia- sex with children (below the age of 13) as a preferred or exclusive mode of sexual interaction in an adult

People here have been saying that they agree with outing someone when they're working against the gay community. But if they're not actively harming the community at large, it's okay for them to be closeted. Basically, in punishment for being homophobic pricks, they should be outed against their will.

Is this really fair to anyone? Not that I care much about the homophobes, but is it really a good mindset to be in that coming out should be considered "punishment"? It just gives it kind of a negative stigma, especially in the world of politics. How many politicians have gotten national attention for coming out when there wasn't some scandal involved?
