I think he should have said, "I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry." re: re: re: re: re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*
Again, I sort of like that he never entirely gave in to his fate. The other way may have made him a better person, but this way was very interesting to me, and I think true to the character he was.
I think he was sort of a reverse mirror of Eccelston all along. At the end he could have a "And you know what, so was I" type of moment. Which I like, this way allows it not to take away from that ending, which I think was fantastic.
It is frustrating to see Davies in interviews about this though, he seems to buy this whole "death" thing, and that is just, annoying. He certainly didn't seem that way when he was still running the show. What he thinks doesn't matter though. (Thankfully it finally doesn't matter at all.) re: re: re: re: re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers* Bring on New Who.

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. One thing's for sure though, I'm definitely excited for the new series to start in the Spring.

I think what disappointed me the most in this episode is the whole bit with the Time Lords and Gallifrey. I was super excited at the end of part 1 because I thought RTD was going to restore them to what they once were. He'd said in a few interviews that he was going to wrap everything up nicely so that Moffat could have a completely clean slate to work with, so I figured that bringing back the Time Lords permanently was part of that plan. I've never enjoyed the whole lone traveling Time Lord bit anyway, and after watching some more of the older stuff I really enjoy some of the stories that involve Gallifrey. So, having them become some sort of evil race locked in a time bubble or whatever with The Doctor being the only good one left me irritated, but I'm sure they'll be back eventually. It's science fiction.

Also, I think the the female Time Lord at the end was supposed to be Flavia. I know that I've heard RTD say that he always thought of that bit of music that played over her at the end was Flavia singing to the Doctor or something.

I never watched the older series (minus a couple of episodes) so, I have no clue who that is. The internet is a buzz that it is Donna (since when Wilf asked who it was, he looked at her) but I highly doubt it.

"Doesn't he look tired?"

(I didn't think of that, unfortunately. It was on Life, Dr Who and Combom.)

Ok, Flavia works. Which I had to look up, but would have loved a nod to that during the show so it made a bit more sense.

I think I wanted the same thing Mandi, with the Time Lords back as a race, but I think that entire part of the episode worked pretty well, I'm sure there will be some good ones at some point and they can return. Likely best not to be in RTD's hands.

It is frustrating to see Davies in interviews about this though, he seems to buy this whole "death" thing, and that is just, annoying. He certainly didn't seem that way when he was still running the show.

He wrote even wrote an eloquent line or two in that mode - Nine said he'd be the same person, just not with "this daft old face". I mean yes, he was saying it to reassure Rose, but he seemed to mean it, too.

The "Flavia theme" is the one they used a lot with Nine, with the solo female vocalist. They joked that the vocalist was Flavia in one of the commentaries - I don't think it was ever meant in earnest.

And all the stuff I was bitching about? The yelling at Wilf, the "I don't want to go", etc. - you guys are absolutely right; it was thoroughly in-character. But those are the aspects of Ten's character that made me hate him. I just wanted to have him be the Ten I rather liked, here in his last adventure.

I cheated and watched the last 45 minutes of part 2 because I had to see the regeneration. (Comcast has it On Demand, so I'm going to curl up in my favorite comforter, mocha in hand, to watch part 1 & 2 together) I was a bit apprehensive about the regeneration, because I've been watching DW since the mid 70s. I adored Peter Davison (still do!) and never quite warmed up to Colin Baker because of that. I didn't feel the wrench when Christopher's Doctor regenerated into David's Doctor, because it was only one season---though Christopher was absolutely brilliant. But David has been an absolute joy to watch, hence the apprehension. Sorry so long winded!
I think we are in safe hands with Matt Smith---I loved the "still not ginger" remark, and that's when I relaxed---reminded me of the "new teeth" that David started with.

From waht I saw of pt 2 (and I don't know how much of a role Donna plays in pt 1 or the first half of pt. 2), Donna wasn't a weapon, per se. If I recall correctly, the Doctor remarked about not leaving his best friend undefended. If the Master had succeeded in unlocking Donna's mind, bye bye Donna! And yes, her pre-Doctor personality is so annoying, but that was how she was (as so many of us are!)

Okay, off the soapbox and off to watch the complete End Of Time!

I did not like Ep. 2 at all. Didn't like the pacing, the whole Time Lords thing, and especially disliked the extended good-bye. I understand why, but it all felt so heavy handed.

I have only seen ep 1 so far - hope to see ep 2 tonight - seem to have some other 'distractions' in life right now. The Time Lords appearance surprised me at the end of ep 1. Russell doesn't seem to afraid to take chances with Dr Who (or Torchwood for that matter) which makes it fun to watch.

I still say he's way too young, but that's not his fault, and I hope I can enjoy him in spite of it. Signs are good so far - his squeaky delivery of "I'm a girl!" was priceless.

I'm thinking they may balance out his youth by casting an "older" Doctor after him!

To be fair, he is only 3 years younger than what Peter Davison (5th Doctor) was. But, it's still weird because he is the same age as me (born the same month, too). Oh well. I'm sure he can pull it all off.

I am watching episodes from the Peter Davison season and, while I like him as the Doctor, I can't get into these classic Who stories. For one, the dialogue is just pure stupid and the situations are downright laughable. Gah, I want to love classic Who as much as the current series, but they are so corny and stupid while trying their hardest to be serious.

EXAMPLE OF DIALOGUE:

The two female companions are trying to find the index file in the TARDIS's mainframe but they don't know how. One of them goes, "If only we can find it. My grandfather always said 'if' is the most powerful word in the English language. If. If. IF. I-F. Index File." And low and behold, somehow they find it.

Where did you find those patterns? I assume they're knitting patterns?

Spidey, watch "City of Death". It's utterly ridiculous and I love it. The bit with the chicken has to be seen to be believed.

Why all the bad mouthing of RTD? His story arcs and linking back to minor points in previous episodes and series has been excellent. Lets not forget he was the one that got Dr Who back on our screens and cast my two favourite Dr's ever!!!

FYI BBCA is repeating both parts of The End of Time on Sunday from 5-8. I think Waters of Mars is also on again.

I feel like now is a good time to get involved in this.

I became a fan of Doctor Who sometime in September. My first Doctor was actually Eccleston in the episode "Dalek" (which is still one of my favorites), but after that I ended up watching a lot of Tennant's because, well, he was on television. And Tennant is my Doctor, essentially. I find him to be a great actor.

Favorite episodes:
S1: "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances"-Steven Moffat, great story, and I love things set during WW2. "Dalek" is a close second because it was a good example of a companion making the Doctor better.

S2: "The Girl in the Fireplace" or "Doomsday". Both good stories, and the second made for a great season finale.

S3: "Human Nature/The Family of Blood" for a great story and great acting, as well as "Blink". And I loved the Master. John Simm is excellent.

S4: "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead". (I sense a trend here.) Although I liked the rest of this season as well. And now, to add comments on the specials:

I liked "Waters of Mars" because it challenged the Doctor to not do anything. Of course, he didn't listen. The good thing is that when he didn't follow the laws of time, he got put in his place.

"The End of Time, Part 1" was epic in the sense that the plot was rather wild and hard to follow, and it involved the return of the Time Lords. I didn't really like it as a whole, but the part with the Doctor and Wilf in the cafe was my favorite. I've always liked the theme that the Doctor's companions make him better, and it is at this point where the Doctor admits that to Wilf.

"The End of Time, Part 2" was excellent, especially in terms of acting. Very much better than Part 1. The goodbyes at the end were a bit long, but I have to say, I rather liked his last visit to Rose. Just because it had the feeling of going full circle and all that. As for his speech to Wilf, I found that really interesting. It's a side of the Doctor that people don't like to acknowledge, but it exists. I can understand why he would say such things--it must be stressful, thinking you've cheated death only to find out that you are in fact going to die, just not in nearly as justifying circumstances as you thought. The best part about that scene, though, is the fact that the Doctor still saves Wilf, just because he's still the sort of person who would. He can overcome the darkness. I also liked his comment "Live too long". I wonder if we'll see any of that sort of view (about living too long) in the next Doctor.

Speaking of Matt Smith...I loved his entrance! My sister hated it. It was actually really jarring, to have Tennant's Doctor fearing death and then, next second, to have Matt Smith's Doctor frantically yelling and running around. But I thought it was brilliant. A great set up for next season.

*sigh* I'm done.
