Is that UK or US? I figure we in the States will get it a week after the UK...

I was guessing UK transmission, I'm not sure how far the US is behind the UK - I know that the first few 'new' series were months behind but that gap has got smaller over the years as the show has gained popularity...

I feel like it'll probably only be a week behind schedule. If they're really nice, it'll be the same day, since the U.K. would get it first anyway.

I can't wait to get the new DVD. On another note, I got my sister a sonic screwdriver pen for Christmas. Unfortunately, it has just arrived today. I didn't know sonic screwdriver pens were in such high demand.

Great link, kec!

For some reason I was rather excited that they included the "It's like when you fancy someone and they don't even know you exist" line.

According to the UPS site, mine should be in by Friday. Which is actually good, since I wouldn't be able to watch it before then. (And that might have driven me crazy.)

Mine was sent USPS (probably because I opted for free shipping) and the ETA is 2/8. What's really weird is that the package left the sale facility in STERLING, VA yesterday (I live in Alexandria). Four days from Sterling to Alexandria? *rolleyes*

^That is really strange. Hopefully the ETA is off a bit and it gets there sooner.

Last I checked, my shipment was in Philadelphia but departed. Apparently something delayed the package. Probably snow.

On another note, I have been watching some of David Tennant's other stuff, which is really entertaining. It makes me want to see him in something soon. If anything, there's always Hamlet in April.

I just saw an advert for the new show Survivors on BBCA, and two Dr. Who alum are in it---Martha and Pete (easier than trying to spell Freema's name---and I can't even pronounce it!)

EOT pt 2 always gets me---I keep watching the goodbyes over and over "I don't want to go"

The scenes where he visits the companions is on YT, and every time I watch it I tear up -- A LOT.

If I don't get my Boxset this week, I do have Casanova to watch...

The part that gets me whenever I watch it is the moment where he thinks he's escaped death, only to hear the four knocks. And what follows is just really sad.

The "I don't want to go" and the look on his face as he regenerates also makes me feel a bit like crying.

That is so funny. I think they should've put something about Christmas being dangerous as well, since plenty of people have probably drawn that conclusion from Doctor Who.

But actually, I have learned something from Doctor Who. I was flipping through my Biology book the other day and saw that fat cells really are called adipose tissue. So I know I'll remember at least one Biology definition.
Adipose-It's True

Okay, guys...I'm really obsessed with Doctor Who. A week of snow days where I'm at leisure to watch episodes isn't helping! I'm kind of bummed that I'm so behind in jumping on this bandwagon, because I really want to discuss some of the earlier episodes! So for you long-time fans, what are your favorite episodes/scenes/moments? I know there was a bit of discussion about this a while back on this thread.

I just want to say that my Complete Specials came in yesterday. I should start watching them tomorrow.

As for earlier episodes, I think among my favorites with Tennant in them are "the Christmas Invasion", "The Girl in the Fireplace", "Doomsday", "Human Nature/The Family of Blood", "Blink", "Midnight", "Turn Left", "Waters of Mars", and "The End of Time, Part 2". My favorites from Eccleston are "Dalek", the two-parter with "The Doctor Dances", and the last two episodes of series one. My all time favorite is "The Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead."

That would be a starting point, I suppose.

I can also tell you my least favorite. Hands down, it's "Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks." I really hate those two episodes.

*oh why did I click on free shipping for my boxset?!?!?* Still not here and with the snow now, it's highly possible I won't get them until the middle of next week!!! 5 plus days from Sterling Virgina to Alexandria (a mere 32 miles)... *cries*

Daleks in Manhattan isn't a great episode, but It's somewhat special to me because it was my "introduction" so to speak of the wonder that is David Tennant. My favorites are the episodes written by Steven Moffat i.e. Blink and The Girl in the Fireplace; Human Nature/Family of Blood, Partners in Crime, The Unicorn and the Wasp Both Part of The End of Time... oh soooo many...

I can understand that. I mean, Tennant himself isn't bad in the episode. I just have a problem with the plot line. But then again, by the time I saw it I had seen a lot of Doctor Who episodes.

My first intro to Doctor Who was the episode "Dalek". And the second time I watched it, there was a marathon and David Tennant was the Doctor. The first episode I saw with him was "The Stolen Earth/Journey's End" (they were combined). I didn't understand most of the plot but I liked the characters.

I can't believe that it's taking your shipment five days to go 32 miles. They should just be able to get it over there--in one day! Two, at the very least. Slow postal service is not good...

I don't really care for "Daleks in Manhattan"/"Evolution of the Daleks," either. I probably would have been fine with it as a single episode, but the plot didn't really earn being a two-parter. I also didn't really like "Fear Her" or "42."

I agree with most of the favorite episodes. "The Empty Child" is really the only time I felt that a Doctor Who episode was genuinely creepy (which isn't a criticism, because that's not why I watch the show). "Parting of the Ways" is of course brilliant, and "Doomsday" was devastating and some of the best acting I've ever seen on television. I also love "Silence in the Library"/"Forest of the Dead," particularly the latter -- Donna is just wonderful in that episode. And I also love "The Girl in the Fireplace," both for the story, relationship development, and some brilliant one-liners and comedic scenes ("What's a horse doing on a spaceship?" "Mickey, what's pre-Revolutionary France doing on a spaceship? Get a little perspective!").

Rose will probably always be my favorite companion, but I'll chalk that up to being a sucker for doomed love stories. Her episodes are generally my favorite to watch on repeat viewings because of the dynamic between Rose and the Doctor and all the different things that are going on there. But I adore Donna, too, and when I think of specific scenes that stick out in my mind as being great, a lot of them involve her: her conversations with the Doctor in "Runaway Bride," hearing the song of the Ood, "You fought them off with a water pistol?! I bloody love you." in "Fires of Pompeii," "Is that Time Lord for 'Really not all right at all'?", everything with her in "Journey's End." I don't find series 3 as compelling on the whole, and I think that's because, as badass as Martha objectively is, she was pretty together to start with, and she's the companion who had the least to gain/learn about herself from traveling with the Doctor. In fact, in some ways her relationship with him held her back. Interesting to see the darker, insensitive side of him, though.

And, um, I think I'm kind of in love with David Tennant. Love Eccleston, too, but I'm a sucker for the dynamics of Tennant's Doctor. The Doctor is such an interesting character in his loneliness and otherness, and I'm glad that the show explores that quite a bit. Updated On: 2/8/10 at 07:33 PM

Speaking of season 3 you reminded me of another favorite episode -- the Shakespeare Code. Love the setting and the scene where the Doctor says "c'mon we've got to go, flirt later," to which Shakespeare replies, "Is that a promise, Doctor?" and the Doctor sighs and says "57 academics just punched the air."

I love Tennant for his energy. I don't think I've ever seen anyone come at a role with so much energy. And The Doctor is an interesting character no matter who's playing him. There's no other like him on television (or, possibly, anywhere).

I love the dynamic between the Doctor and Rose. They just went so well together. I have to say, though, my favorite is Donna. Donna was funny and she had a lot of heart and she put the Doctor in his place at times. And what a mouth! It was great to watch the Doctor form a friendship with her.

Martha was fine, too, though with her one-sided love going on there was some awkwardness. I think Series 3 is kind of a transition period, in terms of the Doctor moving on from Rose. Which makes it both not as good as the seasons where he is more accepting of his companions but also gives the show a different spin. And Series 3 did do some great things. Human Nature/The Family of Blood was brilliant.

I get such a thrill from The Shakespeare Code. Especially since my English class is doing Brit Lit, and my teacher is in love with Shakespeare. Particularly Hamlet. And, well, this is a great way to get into that, I suppose.

I wish more people new about this show. Personally, I don't know many people (in real life, anyway) who have heard of it, let alone watched it. Then again, I found out about it in an unconventional way. I'm not really a sci-fi fan, but I enjoy a good story and good characters. Which Doctor Who is good for.

I'm trying to convert people, but it's kind of difficult. It doesn't help that I gave up on the show before giving it a chance after watching the pilot a while back. I think I was just like, "Cheesy attacking plastic mannequins? No." If I had paid attention long enough to get to the Doctor's monologue about feeling the turn of the Earth, though, I might have been hooked.

Anyway, I originally skipped the other two 2009 specials to get to "The End of Time," but yesterday I saw "The Waters of Mars." Adelaide would've been great as a Companion. And, okay...those last 15 minutes blew me away. The Doctor's "For a long time I thought I was just a survivor. But I'm not. I'm the winner. The Time Lord victorious." comment and everything in that last scene were so chilling. And how he keeps trying to lighten the mood, seem human, but fails miserably and only seems more threatening -- so well done. It really makes me wish they had touched on some of those themes in "The End of Time."
