I didn't know there was a special reason why girls like Doctor Who. I wonder what they'll have to say. The bit about one author analyzing the changes in Rose between the 9th and 10th Doctors sounds interesting.
I'm rather interested in Carole Barrowman's story about her brother (interesting that he still feels afraid of store window dummies )
BTW, Guitar Girl, did you read the forward in the Episode Guide for the Specials?
Yes, I did, and I thought it was adorable. Very creative, too. I very much enjoyed the conversation Tennant wrote, but the best part was the end.
Anyone see John Barrowman on Jonathan Ross Friday night? It's up on YT if you missed it.
The message David wrote in that forward was beautiful, and a perfect way to round out his time as the Doctor. I agree, the last thing he told his eight-year-old self was charming.
So, has everyone seen the speacials? What did you think of the extras???
The extras were pretty good. I didn't know that all the other DVDs had cut-down versions of Doctor Who Confidential. I'm glad they included the full versions on the DVD. And I liked the video diary, as it's nice to get David's perspective on things. Haven't watched the Comic Con feature yet, but I probably will get around to it soon.
I'm hoping he shows up at the NY Comic Con this year! We had Torchwood (Eve Myles and Euros Lyn promoting Children Of Earth) last year, so...
That would be pretty awesome.
On another note, just checked out Barrowman on Jonathan Ross. I like that he's going to be in Desperate Housewives. I don't watch the show (I used to), but I might have to watch the episodes he's in. And that was the first time I heard him use his Scottish accent, which surprised me.
I missed Jonathan Ross---I was watching the Olympics, and asleep when they repeated the show at midnight or 1am. I'll have to catch it on Youtube!
I don't watch Desperate Housewives at all, but I will watch it when John is on---he is just so much fun to watch, and in something over the top like DH he will shine!
Apparently it's October 8-10.
Not sure if I'll be in New York then, surprisingly.

Regarding the extras... did anyone watch the DoctorWho Proms concert?
I go to the NYCC every year (given that it's only 4 years old, that wasn't hard to do!)
I just got info in my email about Hamlet---Street date is May 4th (just after the April 28th air date), 19.98 list (blueray is 24.9. Bonus features: 1: Commentary by Producer, Director, and Director of Photography and 2: 40 minute behind-the-scenes feature.
I just bought a TORCHWOOD novel. HUZZAH!
They're releasing Hamlet on DVD here? If so, that's great news!
That book cover looks quite creepy. I wonder how the Torchwood novels are. I read a Doctor Who novel, but the two might be different.
I'm reading a TORCHWOOD novel now, INTO THE SILENCE, about a series of deaths involving singers (which, as a singer, creeped me out a bit)but it was quite good.
Actually, Spider, your book is the middle of three -- the first being the book I have, then followed by THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT. I bought that one in Cardiff, and a friend told me that it references events in the previous books, so I bought the other two.
I also have one Doctor Who novel, BEAUTIFUL CHAOS, which made me cry at the end because it was a Doctor - Donna story that took place before her mind wipe (but the intro and epilogue took place after the events of Journey's End. I also have THE STONE ROSE on audio book, read by some tall skinny Scottish Bloke named David...
did anyone watch the Doctor Who Proms concert?
Loved the Proms concert, though it's annoying that the Blueray release only has it in SD when it was made and broadcast in HD. Seeing the monsters stomp around the Albert Hall is just surreal!
I have a shed-load of the old books ('classic' series and BBC 8th Doctor) but not any from the revamp - can anyone recommend any? Beautiful Chaos sounds interesting...
I have all those hardback Doctor Who and Torchwood novels---just got a batch in from Borders (reading The Eyeless now). They are all pretty good, just read them in order because of the change in Doctors and companions (DW) and the demise of certain characters (Torchwood)---though since everyone here is a fan, no one should have a problem keeping the timeline straight! You can check ebay for cheaper earlier ones. The DW ones start with CE's Doctor and Rose, and the current ones are just DT with no companion---though there will be new novels with MS as the Doctor coming in the spring! I think there are only two of the DW recent ones I don't have--The Krillitane Storm and The Taking Of Chelsea 4 5 6.
And yes, Hamlet is being released in the States! I got an email from Warner with the details (which I posted)
"Loved the Proms concert, though it's annoying that the Blueray release only has it in SD when it was made and broadcast in HD. Seeing the monsters stomp around the Albert Hall is just surreal! "
Loved the looks on the children's faces as a cyberman or jadoon walked by, and the boos that came out when Davros appeared... very cool!
I'll be looking into a Hamlet DVD now... Speaking of which, I've finished watching it. It was better than the production I saw in September (which was in New Jersey).
I actually was looking at "Beautiful Chaos" and reading a few reviews out of curiosity. I might have to get it...
For anyone who might be interested, BBCAmerica will have a new trailer for the Next series sometime on Saturday.
I wondr if they'll show it during DW at 7:00? Hmmm....
The Teaser trailer is up on BBCA:
Doctor Who Teaser Trailer
That was different from many other Doctor Who trailers I've seen. I like that we're getting the thrill of having another companion introduced to the world of the Doctor. And a new Doctor to get to know as well. And spring is just around the corner!
Also, David Tennant has a job. Apparently he's going to film a short television series for BBC1:
