This is so stupid. If it's going to have the same actors and same producers, writers, etc., why not just premiere the original TORCHWOOD over here on NBC or something? I just don't understand
I read the Hollywood Reporter story. The fact that Davies and Gardner are involved keeps me from saying outright it's a bad idea. I'm not crazy about Fox's involvment though -- weren't they behind the Doctor Who tv film that didn't do well? But they need to keep Capt. Jack.
Kec - I believe they were. Also, they are the idiots that canceled "Firefly" too early.
I don't like the sound of it, either. I really think they should just air the original show on that channel (Fox, I guess). I never understood why shows from different countries have to be remade when brought to new ones (The Office is another example, though I haven't seen the British version). If it's so good it should do well wherever they put it.
And I like Captain Jack, but I'm not a big fan of Torchwood. Though "Children of Earth" was really good.
What a very, very stupid idea. Make a science fiction program for adults, finally start doing it right with Children of Earth and then transfer it to the network where good ideas go to die. RTD should have a long heart to heart with Joss Whedon before agreeing to do anything with Fox.
On a happier note the title of Topless Robot's post sharing the news is brilliant.
Fox Ready to Air, Fail to Promote, and Immediately Cancel U.S. Version of Torchwood
Agreed. I also find it a good point that Torchwood is a Doctor Who spin-off and people don't know what Doctor Who is. Not that it would be a detriment to the show--I saw Torchwood: Children of Earth before I saw Doctor Who and it didn't confuse me, except for when Gwen started talking about the Doctor. But then again, people would want to know where Torchwood came from, and why Jack is immortal and all that...
If they really want to bring BBC stuff like Torchwood and Doctor Who to the U.S., they should just air the British versions. Clearly they've been successful in their home country. And I'm sure people in the U.S. won't mind the Britishness of everything. I know quite a few people who would like that.
No way, not on God's Green Earth, do I want to see Torchwood on Fox. I can't think of a quicker way to ruin the show! They would tamp down everything that makes Captain Jack so wonderful! I read the links, and agree---they would hire some Barbie doll blonde and relegate Gwen to the background---and she's the heart of the show! no no NO!!!!!
As for the bit on Rex, I'm crossing my fingers---it sounds like an easy fix as far as scripting oges.

FOX kills a lot of sci-fi because it tries a lot of sci-fi. The fact is, 90% of aired pilots of all genres fail, and all networks engage in scheduling stupidity. If anything, FOX seems like the perfect network for Torchwood's YAYS SEX AND VIOLENCE attitude.
And Torchwood itself is an easy fit on a U.S. TV schedule, probably because it was trying so hard to be American in the first place. This isn't one of those cases where the show has some kind of ineffable Britishness that's sure to be ruined in the cross-Atlantic translation. A secret group fighting alien invasions? Call it a cross between 24 and The X-Files and it seems downright natural.
Sorry, I'm just not buying the cries that Torchwood is the sort of delicate BBC hothouse flower that's sure to be ruined by U.S. network TV. If FOX inserts an actual good showrunner in there it can do just fine.
ETA- As to the charges that Jack's bisexuality wouldn't be allowed to roam free on U.S. TV? That's...probably true, sadly.

Jack would not be the same...
Still, we'll see. It just seems like they're going to end up spending money on something they could have saved money on by airing the original. Unless, by remaking it they can make it better (especially in terms of the first two seasons).
The British National Television Awards were tonight -- one guess who won for best Drama performance :

From the same program, one guess as to what show won Best Drama.
One more thing... Simon Pegg tweeted and it's been reported elsewhere that David had to drop out of doing Burke and Hare. No reason given, but the speculation is that it has to do with Rex is Not Your Lawyer.
NTA Best Drama Award
This is great! I'm so happy for Tennant and I loved that Cribbins got some of the spot light. And David's speech got me quite excited for Matt Smith's run. But it's good to see that he's ending the show on a great note.
AWWW. I had a big smile on my face the whole time (minus the annoying screaming girls)
Yeah, those girls were a bit annoying.. honestly, if you like him that much, show him some respect and LISTEN to what he's saying! LOVED that he turned the mike over to Bernard Cribbins for the Best Drama award.
Edited to add I read a "report" on the message board attached to David's website; one of the posters there was in attendence with a few friends, and she mentioned that the 'we love you David" screams were them. The poster is 33 years old... *rolleyes*

Remember in "Fear Her" how the Doctor ended up being the one to light the Olympic Torch for the 2012 summer Olympics? Well there is a petition up asking that DAvid be the person to light the torch for real.
David Tennant Olympics 2012
I was actually thinking that he should when I saw the episode. (The thought was along the lines of, "Wouldn't it be funny if that actually happened?") That would be quite interesting, if the Olympics Committee actually decided to do that.
I was putzing round the net last night, and rewatched some of the Comic Con Doctor Who panel. In this part someone asked for advice on dealing with the "trauma" of losing a favorite Doctor. Euros Lynn talked about Murray Gold's reaction to the last 20 minutes of Part 2 when they were working on the music. It's quite interesting to hear about that reaction now that we've all seen those last 20 minutes.
Doctor Who Comic Con Panel Part 3
HAHA. I love when Russell says, "eat that Supernatural. Eat me, Supernatural." Love it! Supernatural is my second favorite show
Look at this (From December):
Doctor Who's TARDIS lands at Caerphilly Castle
Wow. The TARDIS on a castle. I think sometimes they must get a thrill over in the U.K. by placing the TARDIS in random locations. I know they did a funny prank with a TARDIS on the Graham Norton Show.
A friend of mine who lives in Cardiff told me they were filming out there in December and just left the TARDIS there for the holidays.
Classic Who marathon on PBS now
Those kinds of programming are usually not national. I have access to two PBS stations here in DC. The Maryland one was showing the 9th Doctor's episodes a couple of years ago, but the DC affiliate was not. I should put in a request for that...
Nothing here as well. Which is a shame, because I'd have liked to have seen them. I haven't seen any classic Doctor Who. I also find it odd that they don't really air any 9th Doctor episodes.
Many of the Classic Who episodes are available on Netflix as is the new series.
