Ha! How could I forget Gollum Doctor? That would be almost as bad as forgetting the Disco Tinkerbell Jesus Doctor that came right after! A UK tabloid actually ran an image of the caged wrinkly Doctor a few days before the episode aired, and I was sure it was a hoax because there was no way they could actually get that weird, right? ...Yeah. Now I never dismiss a spoiler on the basis of it being too strange.
I adored John Simm* as the Master, and Tennant did some of his absolute best work opposite him, but my goodness that was cracky. And that was before the awesome Scissor Sisters musical number.
*Everyone in the whole world should watch the original Life On Mars, which stars Simm and is way better than the US remake. Simm is freaking fantastic in it, and not a thing like the Master.
It's funny reading this, because a friend and I have a similar debate about 9 and 10. 10 is my favorite just because I adore Tennant, but I actually also really love Eccleston's portrayal. I do agree that it's time for a new Doctor, though. What both my friend and I REALLY want, though, are some non-present-Earth-female companions. I mean, we have a plethora of imaginary galaxies to choose from!
Torchwood, though, is my ultimate guilty pleasure tv show. For such a gifted team, they're remarkably incompetant. But how could I not love a whole series about Captain Jack?

Torchwood: We push the buttons on suspicious alien devices so you don't have to.
I thought both Eccleston and Tennant both portrayed the weight and hardships. Yes, Tennant was more boyish and giddy but when it came to serious moments where he had to make a hard decision, the boyishness dropped completely and you can see the years on his face.
Plum - it seems to me that you just don't like Tennant as the doctor and/or the writing of his seasons and find little to praise it. I'm not saying it's wrong or anything but it's obvious that you just did not like it. Even though Eccleston is not my favorite I thought he did an amazing job and I liked season 1 a great deal. But, we have a long history of being polar opposites on opinions. hahaha. GO US!
...and they make us have sex or die...
which I say as someone who enjoys Torchwood in its own way.
As to Dr Who: I would love it if the show had some non-human companions (male or female) and if they would spend some more time away from Earth. I don't think either is all that likely though. Maybe they would at least entertain a companion from the past though.
I totally agree about Simm and Tennant, I really loved the whole Master plotline ... except for the entire "shiny Jesus doctor" and "gollum doctor" part. (I did enjoy the storyline where the people used the matrix to bring the doctor back, just not the way they took it as a "savior moment.")
On Torchwood: Seriously. I love how their motto is "We really meant to solve that crisis, but...the sex got in the way."
Though 3 is probably my least favorite season finale, I love the way it's set up through the entire season. Last season, I felt like the through-line wasn't nearly as strong. Donna is probably my favorite companion, though, so I forgive them.

Spidey, I liked Tennant and Ten quite a bit in S4 with Donna. Before that there was way too much skeevy subtextual stuff going on between the Rose/Doctor relationship and the Jesus metaphors being thrown all over the place, and Tennant was repeatedly forced to go into a "screamy anger" mode that simply doesn't suit him as an actor. If Ten had been S4 Ten from the start I'd have loved him all around. And me saying Eccleston's the better actor isn't really that much of a diss to Tennant, because I think Eccleston's one of the best actors around, period. But yeah, the day we totally agree on something will be a strange day indeed. :)
I agree that the throughline/thematic work in S3 was excellent - that's another thing I sort of felt was missing in S2. I think it was there in S4 - the whole DoctorDonna thing was being hinted at heavily from the start between the Ood and the little family shrine at the end of "Fires of Pompeii". Donna's memory loss was preceded by Agatha Christie's. The disappearing planets and the bees were sort of an ongoing mystery, and several of the aliens during the season were obsessed with reproducing, which you can say is a precursor to all the companions being seen at the end as the Doctor's "children of time".
What kind of always drove me bonkers about the themes in S3 and S4 (and to a lesser extent S1 as well) is the way they seemed to be leading in a certain direction but then everything exploded into a hot mess at the end. Davies does many things well. Plotting is just not one of them. He builds these awesome setups and then lets them collapse into total WTFery. (Clone-Doctor, anyone? What the hell was that?) But when Davies is good, he's excellent, as in "Midnight" and some of his non-Who projects.
Just saw the pilot episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures. it was actually fun to see. a bit for children, but its enjoyable to watch. Sarah jane was joined by her newly moved neighbor Maria (kinda reminds you of Gwen from TORCHWOOD) and her adopted son Luke Jane (was engineered by the Banes, human with 100 x times intelligence) K9 made a brief appearance..and they introduced a new character- Mr. Smith the computer (an alien computer) its like the Tardis.
The show is like the old Doctor Who... Maria (the neighbor) as a young Sarah Jane..Luke as the Doctor and of course Sarah Jane. I love her car...it was the same old car used in the DOCTOR WHO- School Reunion episode.
A must see to all DOCTOR WHO fans! I cant wait for my next DVD from Netflix! btw.. the pilot episode is 1 hour only and in one DVD.

I believe that "Blink" is my favorite episode of DOCTOR WHO so far. Great writing....Great villain...Great leading actress
We've been watching the series on DVD, and one of our favorite extras is David Tennant's video diary - it's so cool to see how much fun they really are having making the show.
David's video diaries are indeed very interesting. I saw the first of them on the second series DVD. It was fascinating to see all the behind the scenes stuff you don't see on the Confidential. One bit that stood out in my mind was when they filmed the series 2 finale on that beach. After the scene was done there was a shot of David in the car with a very sad/serious look on his face and then a shot of Billie Piper being comforted by others. Clearly doing that scene was upsetting to both. I was surprised to see in an early segment that they went past Tintern Abbey -- this is a ruined about about 30-40 minutes from Cardiff. A very interesting place to visit.
BTW,for those who are interested, there are photos over on David Tennant's website of some filming that was done last week sometime. It's filming for the second special (as yet unnamed), and includes a familiar creature, a new creature, and Lindsay Duncan as the Doctor's companion. The filming was done in Newport, near Cardiff (I think it's the first train stop in Wales).

FYI Sci-fi is running a "mini" Dr. Who marathon today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. The episodes are from the first series with Christopher Eccleston, starting with "Rose" and ending with "Boomtown." As a bonus, the last three will feature John Barrowman as Capt. Jack. I know there are a few Barrowman fans on here...)

Don't forget Nancy! Season 1 had so many of my favorite one-off characters. (Remember Jabe?)
Was Jabe the tree lady in episode 2 of the first series?
Broadway Legend Joined: 3/4/04
Yep. I thought she was lovely, and that was a really well-done bit of prosthetics/makeup/costuming, too.
I've only seen that episode once or twice. I recorded the mini-marathon so I'll have to check it out again. But I do remember the make-up, prostetics etc. was extremely well done.
I've only seen all episodes once, but we're about to start from Season 1 again soon ... after watching all four seasons starting last Fall - busy schedules - it feels weird to not be waiting for the next dvd.
DOCTOR WHO Season 4 is very interesting. Just watched 3 episodes. I am psyched to see Rose & Martha back again at Doctor Who. btw- I love love Catherine Tate- I think she's hilarious as Donna! Is the season finale ties in with TORCHWOOD & SARAH JANE?
Has anyone seen an episode with the New Doctor? Ive searched BBC and it does not seems they play the new episodes (SEASON 5)

Jaystarr the fifth series hasn't yet started filming. I believe they start filming those episodes this summer. They are currently filming the second of the four special episodes with David Tennant, the last four he will do as the Tenth Doctor. The 2008 Christmas special is available via UK DVD if you have a multi-region player, and includes the Dr. Who Proms concert, which was performed last summer at the Royal Albert Hall. The first special, PLANET OF THE DEAD is expected to air around Easter, in about four weeks, and will hopefully be up somewhere for us outside UK fans on the net somewhere not too long after that.
To answer your other question, Sarah Jane, Capt. Jack and some others do appear in the series four two-part finale.
