I got there at about 3pm. It was a great group of people waiting in line, and totally worth it. As you all know, I'm a new baby fan so I felt a little out of place when they started talking major shop! But everyone that I met was really cool. I'm *very* excited about this season.

That must have been awesome. Did anything come up during the question/answer session that was surprising?

The New York Times is less kind than most other reviewers towards Smith and Moffat in their review of 'The Eleventh Hour' (but they like Smith's costume):

"They got rid of the high-tops, and for that alone we should be grateful. There was something profoundly irritating about watching David Tennant, the 10th Doctor Who, run around last season saving the world in a suit and sneakers."

^^^That quote alone makes this article stupid and not worth any thought. haha.

The first thing I thought was, "They didn't like Tennant's shoes? I thought they were pretty awesome..."

I actually got the impression the New York Times liked Tennant in 'Doctor Who', considering in an article listing the best television shows of 2009 Doctor Who got an honorable mentioned. (So did Torchwood: Children of Earth.)

On that note, I can't wait 'till tonight!

Double post, but I've just seen the Eleventh Hour and had to comment:

-The similarities between the Doctor meeting Amy and 'The Girl in the Fireplace' stood out to me, but didn't bother me enough to actually take away from the episode.

-Matt Smith has some awesome moments of 'madness'. One that stood out to me was his throwing the water out of the cup in Amy's room and then looking surprised that there was water in there. But I have to admit, he did sound a bit like Tennant in places. I didn't find him threatening either, but other than that, I do like his Doctor so far.

-Amy Pond is a great companion. Her lying about the wedding and having an issue with the Doctor being late is great, and her not believing the Doctor at first was, well, a first. And her boyfriend Rory is quite nice, too, and I'd like to see more of him.

-The Doctor using technology and social media to spread the word about Prisoner 0 was really clever.

-The bits where Amy went into the room she didn't know existed and the people who were possessed by Prisoner 0 were just awesome Doctor Who moments. That creepiness is the best part of the show.

-Amy's introduction to the TARDIS did have a 'magical' feel, and I always love when the companion enters the TARDIS. I'm not sure about the interior design yet but I'm thrilled that the Doctor has already mentioned a swimming pool and a library. I've always wanted the other rooms of the TARDIS to feature. And I imagine the Doctor would have a rather big library.

I thought it was a really good episode, in a nutshell. Not perfect, but that's really hard to achieve. It makes me very excited for the rest of the season.

I LOVED the show! I'm going to stay up and watch it again at midnight---along with the special! I was expecting Matt Smith to be fantastic, and he exceeded my expectations! Karen Gillan is going to be a fun companion, similar in tone to Donna. My favorite part was when the Doctor asked "is it protected?" and they flashed all the Doctors faces---I was deliriously happy!!! Still am...

That protected part reminded me of 'The Christmas Invasion' when the Doctor tells the Sycorax "It. Is. Protected!" I'm glad the Doctor is still just as intent on spreading that message.

Loved the Doctor montage at the end. That eye thing really creeped me out, and the food scene at the beginning was hilarious.

I just watched "Victory of the Daleks" and it is the strongest episode so far this season, since it had one objective and stuck to it. Also, it's one of the only Daleks episodes that was entertaining and made sense. Another plus, is that it brought the Daleks back to being a metaphor for Nazis.

Matt Smith keeps impressing me with every episode. No doubt in my mind that he was the PERFECT choice for this role. Now, the Amy Pond character really didn't do anything in this episode, but that's fine. The Daleks are the Doctor's enemy and he has to be the one to face them. But, I am seeing a trend with all three of these episodes that is cool now, but could get old really quick:

***MINOR SPOILER****

Amy Pond is the one that eventually saves the day and outsmarts the Doctor

***SPOILER OVER***

But, other than that, great episode.

Here is the trailer for next week and it has River Song AND The Weeping Angels *SQUEE*

CAN'T WAIT!!!!

I might just have to start finding a way to watch these episodes ahead of time. Now I want to know.

The idea of River Song being back just excites me to no end. And her and the Weeping Angels in the same episodes? That's just...mind blown.

Really? I'll have to change that.

Actually, I just found and watched 'The Beast Below'. I have to agree with most comments here about the story being a bit slopping (in terms of writing and, well, there's some actual sloppy events). I do love Amy in this, and the idea of a choice to protest or forget. It's interesting that people know the Doctor already. And the feeling is still pretty magical. Not as good as 'The Eleventh Hour', but pretty good. I loved Amy answering the phone in the TARDIS (I love that the TARDIS has a phone!) and finding out it's just Winston Churchill calling.

I am SO OVER Daleks it's not even funny. I get they're iconic and all that, but they bore me like nothing else on earth. I'd rather sit through five boxing episodes (I don't know why so many TV shows have random boxing episodes, but those bore me a lot too XD) than one Dalek episode. So I guess I'm glad to have got this one out of the way, but oh MAN it's setting it up for there to be MORE Daleks! And I don't care much for River Song either; she's just a bit too fanfictiony for me, if that makes sense to you. So any glee I'm feeling at the return of the Weeping Angels is countered by the "ugh" I'm feeling at impending River Song.

Other than that, I'm enjoying the new season. Always a pleasure to watch Karen Gillan's legs for an episode. ^_^

Just saw 'Victory of the Daleks'. They didn't fare much better under Steve Moffat than under RTD (in that I didn't notice a difference because, for the most part, I never minded the Daleks). I liked the idea of them being involved in World War II, but that idea was over pretty quickly, and I'm very curious as to why Amy doesn't remember them. And that crack!

As for the design. Well, I was quite fond of the dark green (is that the color?) Daleks that were serving tea and stuff. Their design was pretty cool. But I can't take the new colourful Daleks seriously at all. They're just...too fun to look at.

Not much to say about the Doctor or Amy, although I still noticed some moments of 10th Doctor (him yelling 'You beauty!' in particular). Amy is still awesome, and she's setting herself up to be my favorite companion.

With that in mind, 'The Eleventh Hour' has still been the best episode of Series 5 for me so far.

I like the Dalek redesign a bit more knowing that classic series Daleks were different colors and that the colors mean something about their ranks. But there's really no escaping that they look like Apple products, to the extent that I might have rolled my eyes. I mean, the Daleks were never that scary-looking, but they looked a bit ridiculous to me. I think it was just that combined with the sets and effects looking...well, just not good. If everything else looked great, they might not have bothered me.

If I had to explain what's bothering me about this season so far, it's that the episodes truly seem geared to a younger age group than Davies' were. I feel like the only way I could get on board with these plot points is if I were eight or nine, and even then a precocious eight or nine year old might still have issues. The crack thing is intriguing, but I feel like yelling, "Yes, we get it!" I hope it doesn't make an appearance in every episode. The relationship between the Doctor and Amy is a little too thin right now, too. Updated On: 4/19/10 at 04:37 PM

Well, I suppose the whole magical sort of feel for the new series that Moffat was going for might be making it feel like it's meant for younger children. I have to say, I loved 'The Eleventh Hour', but the next two episodes were kind of..eh. Some series have had that problem, with shaking beginnings but brilliant middles/ends. Perhaps this is one of them?

Personally, I find the fact that everything strange surrounds Amy in some way a lot better than the crack (well, the crack is part of that but by itself is not nearly as intriguing). When I watch this Series I tend to focus on her more than the Doctor. That might not be a good thing (it's good for Amy, though) but we'll see. The next two-parter can either be extremely brilliant or disappointing, depending on just how the Weeping Angels and River Song are used.

I have an odd desire to see 'Vampires In Venice.' I think Venice is a pretty cool setting.

I was pretty underwhelmed by "Victory of the Daleks" - I thought it felt like a two-parter that got squished, and like Weez, I am thoroughly over Daleks. That said, the Spitfire/Dalek space battle was the stuff giggly little kid delight is made of.

As for the Times? I quite like their movie reviewers, but their TV reviewers are largely hacks. And sometimes they're spoilery hacks, which is even worse.

Okay, I just re-watched "Victory of the Daleks" and I don't know WHAT I was originally thinking. The Daleks are one of the most un-interesting villains on that show and they just need to take a season or 2 break from using them again. I'm still glad that they didn't have 5 different ideas in one episode. And I thought the scene at the end with the bomb was beautifully done. But, seriously.....why did I originally like this episode so much. Must have been high on Sudafed. lol

I do like World War II stories. But I think 'The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances' was miles ahead of this one.

It would be interesting to have a season without the Daleks but it seems that Moffat's set them up to return. I suppose it's one thing writers of the show can't bring themselves to do.

Bah, humbug. The Daleks haven't been remotely scary since "The Parting of the Ways". The Master was a far better villain.

And here we had Daleks being used as a morally ambiguous ultra-weapon and the whole thing was too short for that moral ambiguity to even be addressed. Were "Victory of the Daleks" a two-parter, we might have had Amy wondering why they shouldn't take the opportunity to shorten the war by years, and a more multi-dimensional depiction of Churchill than the cigar-chomping cliché we saw here.

Churchill wasn't just the leader who helped get Britain through WWII - he was a determined imperialist who wanted to let Mohandas Gandhi die during a hunger strike and repeatedly sent British troops to put down rebellions in British colonies post-WWII. His own voters got rid of him in 1945 on the principle that he wouldn't be a good peacetime leader. And there just wasn't time for that to come through in this episode. As a historical, it was really more about the window dressing than about actual history.

Not that I expected a Ken Burns special; that isn't the point of Doctor Who. But "Victory of the Daleks" turned out so...generic you could have just inserted any war (and any New Who Doctor/companion combo) in there.
