I am wondering if they didn't request/suggest it (as I have attended auditions, one for a professional production of "Grease" in fact, that have requested songs from the show).
And some of the people being pushed through aren't even community theater caliber singers....

And none of them should really be singing "There are Worse Things I Could Do"...that's Rizzo's song......
It's just driving me crazy because if you're only casting Danny and Sandy, then the majority of these people should have been typed out by now...
What I'd like to see is someone who thought she'd make a great Sandy turn out being a spectactular Rizzo.....or vice versa

Gah, why does my TV suck! My reception is awful, and I SWEAR I just saw an acquaintance of mine go through to academy, but it was so fuzzy I wasn't sure. The girl was wearing her "audition gear" that she always wears, so I swear it was her.
And I know she was out in LA during this time frame for an audition, and she was actually playing Sandy in a professional production of Grease here in the cities (for which she received critical raves) but just took extended leave from the production because of another opportunity that has been very hush-hush.
Grrr. Piece of crap TV.

I almost went to the Chicago ones, but I said...damn I'd have to get up at like 4 am...so that didn't happen...though I'm thankful!! lol
an HOUR to learn THAT dance?!?! wtf...I don't consider myself a "dancer" but I could have def. had that "dance" section perfected in 15 minutes.

Not an hour show.
Not sure I'll make it to the end.

Was I the only one who got a kick out of the guy singing a Green Day song? Seriously, I just couldn't help but laugh!
I liked the tap-dancing cupcake girl. I think she'd make a great Jan. Too bad they're only going for Danny's and Sandy's though. Ah well.

Ivan and I watched it, and I think I enjoyed it more than him.. but only by a little. We may not watch it next week.1
The thing that gets me is this... how many people are actually going to go to NYC to see it? We both said that we're not going to do it. If we're in NYC and it's playing, we may see it.
I don't think any of them will be able to perform 8 shows a week. It'll be a good thing to be their understudy.

Posted: 1/8/07 at 1:32amDoes anyone know the restrictions placed on contestants re: prior professional experience? If the goal here is to find talent in a pool of "unknowns", why did I recognize an acquaintance of mine in the background who has done work regionally and off-Broadway before?

Geeze, I should've auditioned... if this is the kind of talent they're letting through.
There are no prior experience restrictions. You could be a card carrying equity member for all they care.

I love you because I know no other way than this.

"What Broadway show has ever held open vocal auditions for the leads...without an accompanist? They lost me right there."
I thought that was a little odd, too.
It didn't seem right... at all.
I mean, at the very least, they could have had a backing track.

I completely agree about the accompanist thing...
and also about the dancing thing... it took them an hour to do a 10 second dance that was simple. wow.
it IS like a train wreck...I couldn't turn it off!!!
I feel like we'll see SO MUCH more talent in NYC.

Posted: 1/8/07 at 4:23amEh, all those community college, On My Own, singing girls and pretty boys with no talent are going to be blown out of the water once they start showing the NY auditions. They are going to go from Grease Academy to McDonalds Hamburger College.

I couldn't stop switching the channel on this. It was actually kinda painful to watch about half the time.
But what're they going to do if this TV show flops? They're still going to have to go through the process to get leads for the musical. Either way, they're goign to have to open Grease during the summer on Broadway.
