The show sucks? What a great day for musical theater!
I have not and will not watch this stupid show. Ever.

I thought it was sort of fun to watch.
Most of the people they showed were mediocre in the vocal auditions. It will be interesting to see the NYC auditions. A few contestants in LA were OK - but no one was great. Chicago was a mess. I wish they had shown more of the dancing.
I think the contestants were asked to sing a Grease song and a song of their choosing - which explains why we heard so many of the same Grease songs. At one point the brit judge said to a dud "and what did you choose for your Grease song..." or something along those lines. I've been to auditions that have specified to prepare a selection from the show itself. So it's not surprising we heard so many Hopelessley Devoteds.
Did anyone from BWW actually audition?

OMG. Everytime they mentioned "Grease Academy" I couldn't stop laughing.
I have such a hard time watching these types of shows! So over-dramatic and silly! The only thing that topped my Grease experience last night was watching The Pretentious Donald afterwards. Basically, The Apprentice has just turned into a Trump PR show. So sickening!

Posted: 1/8/07 at 12:10pmThey are making this out to be some sort of suspenseful thing or something. If America were picking ALL of the principals, it would be interesting. But lets face it, when they get to NY is it gonna be a stretch to find a perky blonde girl and an Italian hunk that can sing and dance? They need to go through their third choices for Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and look over their Jersey Boys casting calls to finish this one off. It's not as if they are casting Grey Gardens here. You could cast this fluff from high school casts if you had to.

^ I wish they would do that, to spare everyone the pain of watching 50 year olds trying out for the part of Sandy or Danny.
There was that one kid from high school, who had apparently played Danny before, and got all pissy when told that he'd make a good Doody.

Posted: 1/8/07 at 12:48pmWe see that Robin woman on occasion. She is a true mess ( god bless her). She is a professional audience person. She makes a living out of these television shows that pay people $40.00 a hour to sit there all day. I feel for her.. But she is a mess.

PM, I think that was the point...he claims to be the perfect Danny, yet cries like a baby when they say no. It was so...unDannylike.
I found the worst parts (of many) were Billy Bush AND the editing. Why did we have to hear after every sung audition, that "if they get chosen to move on, they'll have to prove they can dance." We get the concept.

Yeah, it probably was.
It's just pathetic, though... pathetic yet entertaining.

That's what I hated about Bush...he came across like he was so not into being there, and his sidebars with the recently kicked off were bizarre. Why didnt everyone get a second chance like that poorly dressed girl in stripes and a wide belt?
I have a feeling that they started this process and it turned out INCREDIBLY boring...and this was the best they could piece together.

Why is it that when I hear "Grease Academy" I'm reminded of Debbie Allen and that talent contest she hosted a few seasons ago. I could have sworn she used "The Debbie Allen Dance Academy" or some similar verbiage.
Oh and Billy Bush was another reason watching was so painful. I turned it off after 10 minutes.

Dottie, I remember that show! It was called "Fame" and it was actually not as bad as this crap. I enjoyed it, for the most part. And yes, she did definitely use the Debbie Allen Dance Academy or something like that in there. I wish they would have just done THAT again instead of this.

Posted: 1/8/07 at 2:34pmThere might still be hope for this thing yet. Many of the people who have made the Top 12 weren't even shown AT ALL during last night's show (yet to be seen if the NY finalists will be shown at the NY audition or not). How Do You Solve a Problem? was actually mildly enjoyable once they got into the nitty grity of the show and past all the audition idiocy.

Posted: 1/8/07 at 2:58pmThat's true, Colleen. Similar to American Idol, I find the most enjoyable part to be when they actually SING. I'll probably keep at least checking in with this show, though I may not watch next week. I hate the audition shows.

Posted: 1/14/07 at 8:18pmWow, that was incredibly shallow. Would they have given any other person that many chances over if she hadn't been a cute, little, blonde girl? Absurd.

I can't believe the number of "singers" who were singing boredly and off-key and were told they'd get to move on to the singing round. I thought they were examples of the sh!tty people the judges had to put up with!
And as if that 40-year-old stands a chance as Danny. With a 17-year-old Sandy? Ridiculous.

Nope
Before turning it off, I actually thought I heard someone intimate there may not be a revival if they cannot find the 2 new leads
Be still my heart. One can hope
