Well, mine was more of a daycare sitter since I was about 6 or 7. But let me tell you, that b**ch had some issues. She was nice when me and my mother first met her, but when my mom dropped me off at her house, she would turn into a whole new person. She had a daughter who was about 2 years younger than me who was a total brat. She would whine and scream at you for no reason, and I remember telling her to be quiet. Then her freak of a mother came in and would yell at me for treating her daughter badly (even though she was acting like a little troll!)
This woman also took care of other children, and we all knew that she was crazy. Whenever she took us anywhere, she would scold us as if she was the parent and told us to say "yes maam" and "thank you maam" to her ALL the time as if she was our biological mother. Plus she forced us to pray with her, and if we didn't, she would yell at us.
I told my mom about the whole situation and she soon got a better day care provider for me.

But yeah, it was pretty much as if I had Carrie's mom to look after me. If I could see her now, I would slap her and tell her to suck on my BIG FAT TOE!!!

Mine was my neighbor. She watched me from the time I was a toddler until I was 4 or so. My parents had no idea that the "tea" she let us drink was beer so that we would "sleep better" aka pass out so she didn't have to deal with us. She had a horrible temper and would hit us or throw things at us. She had us terrified to tell our parents what was going on, but once they did find out things didn't go so well for her. Needless to say it makes me so nervous to think about ever leaving my son with someone else.

Shortly after my parents had to fire our babysitter for stealing from us, she killed her boyfriend. She was fun, though!

Why do we play with fire? Why do we run our fingers through the flame? Why do we leave our hands on the stove, although we know we're in for some pain? -tick...tick...BOOM!

My babysitter used to stick me in the kitchen, put on cartoons, give me some cookies and tell me to shut up and watch TV until my mom came home. Her kids weren't greatest either for that matter! Talk about snobs...

I can't even read the posts here because I know I'll get really upset, but I'm glad you're bringing up the subject. You can NEVER by too careful about who you leave your kids with.

I had a babysitter who called 911 when I got a bloody nose.

I came inside after falling off my swing set and grabbed the nearest tissue box. I was doing what one is supposed to do and she freaked out. An ambulance arrived at the house and EMT came into my house, sat me down on the steps, stuck a flashlight up both of my nostrils and then proceeded to tell her that I was going to be okay.

You can't make that **** up.

What's wrong with calling someone ma'am?

Not crazy, but definitely old-school: Mrs. Hainesworth beat our bare ass with a wooden spoon when we misbehaved.

I don't remember the nanny or the incident, but I still have a scar on my forehead (think Harry Potter but less obvious and, well, lighting bolt shaped) from running into a China cabinet. I was about a year and a half.

Mrs. Toast.

Our parents would drop us off at her house and she was nice when they were there, but the second they left, we got locked in the back room with other screaming kids. About 15 minutes before our parents picked us up, she would seat us in the living room on the couch and we would sit there until they picked us up.

We kept telling out parents what she was doing and the really didn't elieve us. Until Mom got off work early one day and when she showed up, she saw what was happening.

We never went back after that.

Now, on the other hand, there was Annika Rassmunson, te 6 foot tall blonde haired blue eyed goddess who had a twisted sense of humor. I remember hiding in the bathroom after we expelled all of Dad's shaving cream from the can, calling her in, and then covering her in the shaving creme. She would SCREAM with laughter.

Not to mention "The Oven Monster Game"...

A neighbor used to watch my sister and I when we were really little (pre-school age). She had kids of her own who were a little older than us but I don't really remember anything particularly bad about any of them. The bad times came when they would all go to visit their grandma. Of course we had to come along and granny didn't want to have anything to do with us. While they would all be inside, having lunch, we would be locked out on the back porch. It didn't matter what the weather was like, we were outside. And for lunch? (I can remember it like crystal today) "Eat with the dog".

If I ever have kids, I'm watching them myself. Have you seen the nanny on One Tree Hill? Crazy lady...

In all seriousness though, I truly think that I would have been better off if I was just left at home instead of being regularly dropped off with someone that was mental.

Not all babysitters are mental! Take me for instance!

The only crazy experience I had while babysitting happened a few years ago. I had to be about 15 at the time and I was babysitting for a neighbor. There were two kids, aged roughly 8 and 13.

Their mother wasn't the most responsible. She would never give me a number to reach her by, never tell me when she was coming home and there were times where she had already left by the time I got to the house!

Either way, she was installing a new toilet bowl only it hadn't been completed yet and so only the pipe was sticking out where the bowl was in the downstairs bathroom. I was with Kristen (the 8 year old) making crafts with her when downstairs we heard a rumbling. The pipe was overflowing.

We mopped up the mess, cleaned ourselves up and went back upstairs. A half hour later it happened again!

We tried stopping it but didn't know how. I called my mother and she called her some neighbors.

Soon there were about 6 adults in the bathroom trying to figure out why turning off the water valve didn't work. Nobody could get the water to stop flowing.

In the end I had to call their dad who picked them up and brought them over to his house since their parents were divorced. Their mother came home to a downstairs flooded with sewage and a note on the door telling her where her children were. I babysat for the same family a week later.

Thank goodness I never had any babysitters like any of you have described. However, my parents decided one evening to take a walk around the block, leaving all four of us in the house alone for a little. We were only 8, 6, 4, and 2 at the time. I remember them leaving the front door wide open for some reason and my 8 year old sister and the 4 year old were arguing with each other. I forget what I was doing, but a little while later our neighbor came up the driveway carrying our 2 year old sister, who had walked out the door by herself looking for our parents, only wearing a diaper. Yeah, my parents never did that again. Fortunately, I think my sister was found on our driveway, and we live on a quiet street.

The only other story I can think of for bad babysitting is that my one grandma was just boring. She wouldn't play with us at all and cleaned. She also would barely let us touch our grandfather, although it was okay with him.

Now, my bad experiences were when I was in charge. I just ended up with 2 little boys who fought and beat each other up. Except for that, they weren't bad kids.

My other bad in charge story was for the 3 neighbor kids. They were new when I started babysitting them, and they were awful. They were spoiled and obsessed with stuffing junk like paper towels down my shirt and touching my boobs. They also did lame things like pulling down their pants, just to show off their butts. The one kid always threatened me with liking their other babysitter more. However, I think they pulled that on anyone who babysat them. And it turned out that nobody liked babysitting them at all. I mean, I'm talking about 3 or 4 different people who all didn't like these kids.

I never had a babysitter who wasn't a relative, and most of my relatives are on the very sane side.

Marianne- That sounds horrible!

The family I was describing in the last post consisted of an older 13 or so year old brother with his 8 year old sister.

The brother was only a little younger than myself and he used to terrorize his younger sister. I tried to stop him, but he was stronger than I was.

There was one time when he terrorized her so much that his sister (Kristen) ran into the bathroom and would not leave. I had to finally distract him at which point I could urge her out of the bathroom, run out the door, and rush her over to my house. Her mom didn't mind it when the older brother was home alone.
