I never had a babysitter growing up.... but when I was in middle and high school, I babysat for a family of 4 (who's children are now 15, 14, 12 and 10). At one point, right after HS, I had this insane job that had me working close to 60 hours a week most weeks. As a result, the mom found herself hiring another babysitter in the neighborhood.
God that girl was a nightmare. The kids used to complain to me all the time about how horrible she was and how much they hated her and how much they missed me. And couldn't I quit my job so I could just watch them again instead of her. She was 14 at the time (4 years younger than I am), easily excitable and ballsy as hell. I remember one night Marissa (the babysitter) heard noises in the house that SCARED her (she's supposed to be the one in charge, remember?), so she cooked dinner and made the kids eat outside on the trampoline. I remember the oldest calling me to ask me what she should do lol She used to swear at the kids and talk to them about inappropriate topics as if they were peers. It was terrible.
Their mom later told me she would find empty liquor bottles hidden in the house, condoms missing and prescription medications missing. She fired Marissa not too long after and I was able to cut my hours at the office so I could be around for them more often.
The kids still talk about her and what a hot mess she was. In fact, we were talking about her just the other night. I am ridiculously glad she hasn't had anything to do with those kids in years!
Funny enough, on that same topic, their mom has applied for a German au pair for next year. When the kids first heard they were excited.... then they thought about it and realized it "put me out of a job" so to speak (even though after all these years the kids should know they're more family to me than anything else) and began voicing their vehement opposition to their mother. LOL
