re: Are YOU worried about Swine Flu?

Well, I do have a bit of cynicism concerning the media's propensity for stirring up drama.

BUT, I do think the explosion of humanity has caused the possibility for mutating disease - especially as a population control. Nature does have a tendency to provide its own version of checks and balances.

And, it does give a little pause for thought that it's shown up in SoCal. Am I actually going to hibernate and cower in fear? no - but I probably will be a little more attentive to what's going on around me concerning hygiene.

I really haven't thought about but it's probably because I feel so crummy today. I spent all weekend playing with my next door neighbor's new litter of piglets he just got from a breeder in Juarez and today I'm just exhausted and can't stop sneezing.

Those pigs are adorable! I just can't stop playing with them!

My mom's afraid I'll catch it.

CBS news just reported that foreign governments are taking this seriously.

The US however seems to be taking it as business as usual. By the border in El Paso, migration from Mexico to the US is going on as if nothing has happened.

Well the news said we don't have to worry about getting it from eating pigs.

They just held a news conference here in Denver to say that they fully expect cases of it to start popping up. I am actually surprised we were not one of the 1st states to have cases as a lot of people here go to mexico year round. Cheap airfares and a lot of people have timeshares. But I don't think most of the poeple fly into Mexico city. They are asking people not to fly there and all of these people at the airport that they interviewed don't think there is anything to worry about and they are going anyway.

Yes ,actually I am afraid. Avianflu, WestNile, even SARS never really worried me.( and I lived thru SARS) This does. It is moving VERY fast and we're still not sure of the original source( other than Mexico) It is also not hitting the typical susceptibles- the old, the sick and the young.Instead it's hitting healthy adults w tragic results. and it's not done yet.
The one good thing is it does seem that Tamiflu is effective but I'm not sure how many doses are avail. SO-
GOOD hand washing kids, & frequently, cough/sneeze etiqutte, ( into your antecubital if u don't have a wipe.) and avoid contact w recent visitors to Mexico. OH and NO unneccesary travel even to not outbreak areas. If u can get I95 masks- go for em.

Really? Because I've only seen minimal coverage and I know that there's a detailed plan of action by the CDC and other government agencies. The President has stated that it is a cause of concern but not yet a cause for alarm. How refreshing to see action plans laid out BEFORE bodies are floating in the water like in Katrina.

Namo makes a valid point. SARS was a wakeup call and most countries started up their own ActionPlans based on our experiences here in Canada. So hopefully, the 42 people who died of SARS will have served a purpose.

On the evening news I guy, who I think works with the cdc, said that the masks they are wearing in Mexico will do nothing to stop the germs. Nightline keeps talking about pork but yet every other news program is saying that pork is safe.

I have to say I am a bit nevouse about it. I usually meet a friend around this time for a nightcap and I have decided not to go. I just got over a cold and still have a bit of a scratchy throat and a bit of a congested cough.

I feel like I might have a possible, but not definite, case of the sniffles.

I'm rushing to the emergency room now.

Hopefully I won't die.
