I just randomly thought of this, but many cast members from Sixteen Candles probably aren't thrilled with the connection, even if it isn't necessarily a BAD movie. Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, and well, I don't know about Gedde Watanabe personally but I know many people want to shed the stereotypical image of Long Duk Dong.
Since Gedde appears on Vh-1's recent " I Love the 80s" series and introduces himself as Long Duck Dong, I am assuming he doesn't mind. Either that, or his mortgage was due and it was a paying gig.
Regarding Idina, I was referring to the downpour of post-Wicked related attention, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But even while doing SWIWS, a much darker show (not that she did it specifically to distance herself from Wicked), she was still swarmed by tweens after every performance.
I suppose she's an example of someone who would understandably want to distance themselves from a character, rather than someone who does not appreciate how they got their start (and I'm aware she got her start long before Wicked). Sorry for the confusion!
