I went shopping yesterday to get a few new pairs of shorts, and I couldn't find anything! All the stores I went to (express, gap, old navy, macy's, banana republic, H&M) all had very few, if any, shorts in stock, and all I could find were hundreds of skirts.
Where did shorts go??
(this applies to women's clothing for all the snarky people out there)
No, they're not out. The problem is that the ready-to-wear world is so pro-next seasons that, right in the middle of the current season, you'll see the shift into next season's wardrobe. so, places like the Gap and Old Navy are too forward-thinking and pushing fall lines.
*spent too much time in the fashion industry*
Exactly - our stores right now are heavily pushing Fall merchandise - you might get some good deals on summer stuff in the discounted racks, though.
Aren't a lot of those larger chain stores pushing gauchos? I think they look cute paired with heels.
Am I alone in thinking guys shouldn't wear shorts unless they're being athletic? It just reminds me so much of the tourists with their fannypacks. Maybe it's a NYC thing.
You want to buy shorts in the middle of the summer? What are you, crazy? Next thing you'll be saying is that you want a bathing suit! Haven't you learned that summer is when you buy wool sweaters and cordoroy pants? If you want shorts you'll have to wait until February! Sorry!
Oh, Cheno, I love shorts. I just steer clear of blue jean ones right now and go for khakis.

My girls are 11 and 9 and when they recently shopped a Limited Too and Old Navy - they bought almost exclusively skorts!
I hate wearing shorts, but you have to in 90 degree weather.
What do we think about manpris?
Manpris are the worst thing I have ever seen! Do NOT wear them!!!!!!!!!!!
I managed to avoid manpris when they first hit the racks in '98. Won't be doing that.
ALMOST as bad as the trucker hat.
The worse thing for us in the NW about this pro-next season thing is that it doesn't really get warm here until mid-July, and by then you just can't find summer clothes anywhere. Who wants to buy shorts when it's 65 and drizzly out?
manpris are sick and wrong.
Our Gap and Old Navy line had these for the last couple of years and I am embarrassed we had them...they are mercifully dying out.
Skirts seem to be far more in. I think I heard them called "bohemian" over here---they are huge in Europe, whatever they are called (I refer to them as my hippie skirts).
This is fine by me because I like wearing my knee-length hippie skirts to stay cool...but I am not a fan of the 14 yr olds wandering the streets with those short little skirts hardly covering their butts. I don't know why parents would buy those things for their kids!

I hope they're not out...because if they are, then I am too...I'm wearing them right now! *over exaggerated gasp*
I was just in a Kohl's and there were hundreds. Don't know where you or Kohl's stores are, though.
I HATE shorts. I mean- they're fine for everyone else, but I hate wearing them. I don't actually know why. Pants are just so much better.
And Love4Cheno, it's totally a NYC thing. Of course there are people in the city who wear shorts, but it could be the hottest day in history, the earth could be spiralling toward the sun, and there would STILL be people wearing long pants in the streets. I'd be one of them.
P.S. All of the world's denim shorts and manpris should be thrown into a giant kiln.
magic8- me too. I can't bear wearing shorts. Actually I only own a pair of mesh ones to work out in. And I rarely even wear those.
I have a physical aversion to some shorts- if i see pleats, I vomit. If they're wearing a braided leather belt, I'll faint.
If they're European and wearing Jesus sandals with yellow or pink socks, it's over for me.
Yeah...i'm wairing them right now...but you could try a SKORT...wait..those are for girls...
We're soul mates, I think.
It's too damn hot out--if shorts aren't in, then I'm out!
We must be soul mates.
Let's put on our True Religion jeans and make fun of tourists.
I cannot imagine having Love4Cheno's issues over world peace, let alone clothes! I'm so not interested in clothes. I spend most of my life in a pair of swim trunks.

I do care too much. I'm a slave to the fashion.
I cried when Stefano and Domenico parted ways in their personal lives.
I don't even know who they are!
