http://www.jccmanhattan.org/uwsisrael/ There's an Israeli celebration, if that's what you mean.
I appreciate the intent behind it, but this parade really doesn't represent us, puertoricans. They should call it the Neuyorican parade.
I know the locals that live around the area hate it.

I would assume that a large majority of people who live along/around ANY parade route probably hate that parade.
True. At least in the 90's it was one of the most hated and crime ridden parades for the locals.

"It's very stereotypical."
All these parades are. The St. Patrick's Day parade is an embarrassment. Let's all get drunk to celebrate Irish culture?

I don't think there's any parade more harmful and stereotypical than the gay pride parade. I know that's an extremely unpopular opinion but I really do believe it.
I agree with you Jordan. The gay parades make me cringe and do not represent me or my friends. I hate that we display ourselves as a freak show ( just my opinion).

I can only guess you two haven't seen a Pride parade lately. So many cities have dropped any wording related to sexuality from their names and the processions are dominated by banks, corporations and churches. I have to philosophically disagree with you that sexual minorities making their presence known to the larger community is ever a bad thing, let alone harmful. Visibility is of paramount importance and there is absolutely no amount of mainstreaming that will not be seen as "harmful" to some larger cause that nobody can really seem to define, but they feel it's harmful. I mean, TD Banks and Episcopal Churches are hardly edgy.
Namo.. I have stayed away for the last 3 years. Am I out of touch?

I think you might be surprised how much the mainstreaming of the liberation movement by assimilationists like the HRC has rendered these parades so middle-of-the-road in order not to offend anybody. I still think it's important for people to show up and be seen and as for me, I celebrate anybody who manages to bring a sense of celebration and color and fun to the otherwise vanilla nature of the proceedings. In the whole history of community celebrations, has there ever been one so seemingly determined to show the world how dull and boring we can be?
I do see your point. But I guess the last few times it has not felt as a celebration of who we are . . Maybe it is just my issue.
And now what is expected of us in these parades has become such a cliche. I hate seeing when the only clips they show are of gym bunnies dancing on the street and drag queens on floats.

That's really the problem with the gay pride parades. Flashing corporate sponsorship on the 11:00 news won't get viewers' attention, but finding the participants who do represent the stereotypes will. That being said, I'm not a fan of attending the Pride parade, but more so because the older I get the less I want to spend a hot afternoon in that kind of crazy crowd (I'm becoming more and more like my grandmother as I age, she hated going out in crowds and such).
Not me!
I LOVE A PARADE!!!
