Arrogance in Musical Theater?

Arrogance in Musical Theater?

I don't know why but I find musical theater to be, at times, the most arrogant form of art. I really really do not know why. Perhaps because it is showing how triple-threated everyone is. Like "I'm looking down upon you, you pitiful groundling. Look at how I sing! Dance! AND ACT! AND YOU REMAIN A GROUNDLING! HA HA HA!"

Should I perhaps just stop thinking and take up a hobby like LSD or something?

Because it's like when I listen to singers holding notes and I think "*sigh* They just want to steal precious seconds from everyone's life by turning "me" into "MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"."

I was having a conversation along these lines with someone the other day; play actors can be "jazz hands" in their own way, they just have the cigarette in hand "I'm an artist and I don't need anyone" attitude and their masturbatory crying (yay strasberg).

It comes in all forms :0)

I sincerely hope that was a failed attempt at sarcasm, Q

Well, I was being sarcastic...sorry it failed!

My experience is that opera folk are much more arrogant than musical theatre folk.

DayDreamer, you are far too kind with your wording.

Arrogance is someone so desperate to be noticed he throws the thread out of alignment. And if they feel others look down upon them then they're displaying their self esteem issues.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

Usually, the most arrogance I find in musical theatre is from chorus boys and girls.
I'm not sure why they are so arrogant about always being in the chorus, but they are the worst.
Character actors are usually the best to be around.

Wait, you mean there's arrogant people in musical theater? That it's just a microcosm of the world at large and not a fluffy paradise filled with bunnies and rainbows? Madness!

And as long as this thread is distorted I'm not coming back. Some people ought to know better.

The arrogance of hardworking performers is NOTHING on the arrogance of some folks who live only to sit back and bitch anonymously.

I once got told 'performers will be the most supportive yet the most comeptitive people you ever meet' and even at my lowly level it is true
I guess it is just part of the job, making others notice you

I'll say that it does get a bit tiresome when people seem to think they're special just because they know so and so broke her leg in act two of whatever play or things to that effect.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

But honestly, I think everyone should be able to be arrogant about something. But in their arrogance, people should not make others feel ignorant. Does that make any sense at all?

I think so. I get tired of people who push their opinions so hard (often the same opinion repeatedly) that it seems like they think their opinions are better than everyone elses.
