Who wins these two categories?
Art Direction:
Good Night, and Good Luck
Harry Potter
King Kong
Memoirs of a Geisha
Pride & Prejudice
Costume Design:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Memoirs of a Geisha
Mrs. Henderson Presents
Pride & Prejudice
Walk the Line
Am I crazy for picking Memoirs for both? Even though the movie got luke-warm reception by the critics, I think it isn't a stretch to say it was still one of the most beautiful-looking flicks this year.
seems the hottest names in the tech categories are GEISHA and KONG so go with your gut TMITM. (although i think Pride & Prejudice has a chance for sets and cinematography)
I think Geisha is a smart choice in these categories. The only competition here would be KK for Art Direction.
It's interesting that Geisha pulled out 6 noms--as many or more than all the Best Pic noms, except Brokeback. That, the fact that the Academy will overlook poor reviews/box office in the tech categories, and that most everyone agrees that Geisha looked gorgeous gives Geisha a nice edge.
I would choose Memoirs of a Geisha for both categories, but I'm guessing that they'll give Good Night, and Good Luck the art direction award, since it probably won't win anything else.
I was just about to say the same thing. GNGL for art direction.
I am picking Geisha for costumes and Good Night for Art Direction.
Totally agree w Geisha. ( this is actually the qualifying question( best costume) for my Oscar pool.
Geshia will win costumes hands down.
I would like to see Harry Potter win for Art Direction. We'll see though.
It's going to be Geisha for both. Hands down.
As great as GNGL was, it's going home empty handed.
Art Direction
should win: KING KONG
will win: GEISHA
Costumes
should win: GEISHA
will win: GEISHA
The art direction for Kong was amazing; I'd really love to see it upset Geisha. Their recreation of 1930s New York so vivid and meticulous.
Everything about KONG was breathtaking.
Kong for Art Direction, Mrs. Henderson for Costumes (i know it will probably be Geisha, but Mrs. Henderson was such a better film).
