Whitney and Cece had that duet from the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack...... "Count on Me"....was that it?

(And whether live or pre-recorded, does Miss Woo sing?)

None of that explains why she did that stupid dance. I seriously fell out of my chair laughing my ass off when she started dancing.

I got to see the video here:

http://www.collegehumor.com/news/ashlee_snl.wmv

For some reason, it takes a loooong time, but it works.

Sorry, but anyone who knows anything about a "click" track system knows the band does not cue it with "sticks" before the number. The audio tech running the system has control over which song is played. Besides, the correct song was playing first, then the vocals from the wrong song started and then the band switched to the song she had already performed.

Fortunately, she handled it with professionalism and grace. Umm, yeah.

Also, I guess if I was a recording artist who was performing live and felt the need for a sick track, I would record one live, so it actually sounded live.

Of course, I rarely hear a "recording" artist who, when performing live, sounds anything like their recording. It's very sad.

I cannot believe I fell asleep before this happened (I dozed off somewhere after Weekend Update). So I'm confused. (Blame the antihistamines.) What happened? The drummer somehow was supposed to cue the SNL sound guy to start the vocal track for Ashlee's 2nd song, and the band started playing the 2nd song but the sound guy "accidentally" (heh) hit the 1st song vocal track instead? So then Ashlee looks confused, does a jig, while the band changes to the first song so she can save a little face?

Quick poll:

What's more embarrassing?
Ashlee getting busted for lip-syncing? - OR -
Her stupid dance, and stage walk-off?

(Classic. CLASSIC.)

Fair 2 Middlin - I don't think my immediate response would be to hop around like someone's taking a shot at my feet. If I had as clear of a grasp of the music in all of my songs as I should have, I would've tried to join in with the band, and sing the first song.

I wonder how much she had to pay off her band to go along with the, "My band played the wrong song." excuse. Somewhere, two bemused guitarists, a drummer and a sound guy are having a beer together.

A nice way to cover it up would be to start with the song they were playing then have them vamp at some point to the right song. Blend it in all pretty-like. A real professional would have done that, or at least something other than the little "oh no my buddies messed up" dance.

You people are awfully judgemental of the way she handled it. I'd like to see you handle a screw-up of that magnitude on LIVE TELEVISION. First of all, she's fully aware that no one wanted to hear her sing her first song a second time. What kind of reaction do you think that would have gotten from the live audience? My feeling was she was doing a goofy dance to kill time and make people laugh while the track was fixed. Unfortunately, instead of trying to fix the problem, her band just went back into Pieces of Me (at which point I would have wanted to kill them, but instead would have probably burst into tears and run off like a little girl), and she realized her only choice was to sing the same song again, even though at that point it had been exposed that she had been lip-synching, or leave the stage. Not much of a choice.

She could have told them to stop, then have them start over. Elvis Costello did it once when his band played the wrong song on SNL. I mean if she was some amateur, then yeah, I would feel for her. However, she is supposed to be a professional, and should know how to handle things. I guess I shouldn't expect that from a talent-less studio-packaged money maker.

Yeah. That. ^^^

If this was Star Search, the jig and then running of the stage would be understandable. I would've inked myself, and done just that. (Run off stage and cry, I mean.) For a "professional"...not so much. And to blame it on the band of all people...bad form.

She's like 19. And she's been performing live, for what, a few months? Plus, I wouldn't imagine Elvis's voice came blasting out of the speakers, exposing him as having lipsynched the entire first song. Armchair quarterbacking is easy.

Well, she should have learned what to do in case this happens if she wanted to perform live on national tv. Of course, she wouldn't want to waste her time learning the ropes as long as she can be rich and famous now.

You need to stop bashing her. Ashley Simpson is the next Eden Empanada and is going to be a HUGE star.

I'm taking you all off the invite list for my next show. I can't even imagine what this board would look like if something got screwed up.

Rath - Oh, this board wouldn't look any different if you screwed up. We'd be courteous enough to bash you behind your back instead. Am I back on the invite list?

Well, I hope if something did go wrong in your show, none of you would break character and start Irish jigging and walk off the stage while the other performers were still acting the scene on stage. By show, you do mean show with scenes and acting right, and not a concert? Sorry if I got it wrong.

I know I sound like a total bitch right now, and I don't mean to. However, I just think Ashley could have handled the situation a lot better than just doing a dance then walking off the stage while her band was still playing. Of course, I'm saying this with hostility towards anything in the Simpson family. I never said my opinion was entirely unbiased.

I'm not totally hostile towards the Simpsons, animated or otherwise. (Newlyweds is my guilty pleasure.)

While Jessica is as dumb as a box of not so brightly colored crayons, more importantly, I take issue to the fact that Ashlee/y is riding on her coattails on not trying to prove herself as legitimate on her own two feet. Not only is it disappointing that she had to lipsync without good reason (to think that during hte first song, i was thinking she sings much better live than Jessica does!), but to conduct herself the way she did when things screwed up, and even worse, to blame it on the band that tried to save her behind, was a total turnoff.

According to what was posted by Mr. In-The-Know Shaiman, the band IS what screwed her up in the first place - the drummer hit the wrong button, and instead of stopping and finding the RIGHT button, he just played along to the wrong music. And they didn't help her by continuing to play the song she had already sung.

I personally thought the band sounded better without her singing...er, I mean her voice playing.

See, is that how it normally is? The drummer hits the voice track?? (Genuine question.)

Okay, I'll give you that. Then he's a dumbass too. No one's coming out smelling like roses. But it doesn't excuse her lack of professionalism.

(But you'll be excused if you flub anything. Am I back on the invite list??)
