Not hard to smell -- she gets Oscar nods just for showing up.

Trailer looks dreadful, like some totally scrubbed and sanitized Lifetime MOTW comedy drama for the whole family, as opposed to the play which had real hard edges.

But it is, of course, just a trailer. We'll see, of course.

It feels off to show that many scenes outside the house. I get PTSD of the botched adaptation of Doubt where scenes were moved to exterior settings for no real particular reason.

Lifetime MOTW, my ass. And what makes you think that it's been scrubbed and sanitized? I'm pretty sure it will earn an R rating, which is one of the reasons it's being held for November. That, and to be a serious awards contender.

Clooney's Monuments Men (Nazis, history, period, caper!, Argo in WWII!) has not gotten its trailer yet and I am certain that will be among those movies too. And Grace of Monaco and that Princess Diana biopic.

Good. Looking forward to both of them! Some things are obvious and predictable (like Streep being nominated) for good reason. Doesn't mean it's any less deserved.

Meryl's Brett Butler accent is a bit too revealing of the condescension toward the characters that rests at the heart of the play.

Viewing the trailer makes me think it looks pretty cleaned up, the carefully chosen one-liners and stuff, there's none much of the funk and force and violence that made the play so powerful and entertaining, and that's not surprising in a trailer, which I did point out, after all. We'll see, of course.

And yeah, those little snippets confirm my worst fears about Streep, more of her schtick it looks like.

No, she said she's not done making movies. But she doesn't particularly "like" making them, so it's only when something comes along that she reeeally wants to do.

And I totally disagree about her plastic surgery. She looks great on film still unlike those really sad botched jobs on Meg Ryan and the others.

Don't get me wrong. I love Cher, and think she looks great... on a small screen. Not so sure it would translate well to the big screen, especially in close-up.

Well... okay. But she was heavily made-up in BURLESQUE. The role of Mattie Fae in a movie like AUGUST would require a more natural look and a lot less make-up. Still would have loved to have seen it, though. Do you know if she was ever seriously considered or offered the role?

Cher's days of playing an "everyday woman" are gone.

She only looks great with the right lighting, the right amount of makeup on, and the right frozen expression on her face.

She can't play a scrubbed-faced "makeup-free" wrong-side-of-the-tracks anything anymore.

That limits the casting possibilities and the choice of interesting roles.
