August: Osage County -- Movie Trailer

To be fair, sometimes trailers really missell the movies they're promoting (I still remember the Bridge to Terabithia debacle). But this trailer looked inane.

August: Osage County -- Movie Trailer

If it didn't say August: Osage County on the trailer, I probably wouldn't have known it was a movie of one of my favorite plays. I'm hoping this is just a case of PR trying to appeal to a wide audience and not a representation of the film itself.

Wow. I never saw the play, don't know the story, but I liked the trailer. And what a cast! Some of my favs-Streep and Juliet Lewis, among lots of other really good actors.

I found a copy of the play in the acting room at my school and read it within the hour. Hilarious, sad, tragic, poignant. Letts makes playwrighting look really easy.

I never saw the play, but I think the characters are in good hands with these actors and crew.

"Letts makes playwrighting look really easy."

Because it's a sitcom with cussing? When I saw it I couldn't BELIEVE some members were surprised by the big reveal. I mean, HOW did they not see that coming from a mile and a half away?

God it's terrible. I bet they'll play it in one theater in December. Then unload it later.

August: Osage County -- Movie Trailer

Just watched the trailer and wow, it looks really bad. I'm a Streep fan, but she doesn't seem haggard enough for the role.

I'm hoping this is just a case of bad editing in a trailer, but it all looked so wrong. Why was so much shot outside the house? The house is practically a character and you lose the claustrophobia that the characters feel being cooped up there if you open the play up too much.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

I hope the play isn't as opened up as the trailer implies. But I suspect it was opened up, especially in comparison to the other Lett's movie adaptations, simply because they see the mainstream and Oscar potential here.

I hope there's a horseback riding montage. I hope the women lip sync to "We Are Family" while in the kitchen. I hope they totally dropped the mystery of what happened to Beverly since it is completely revealed in the trailer.

My fervent hope is that Marnie from True Blood will show up. Her accent would sound right at home if that trailer is any indication.

They moved the release to Christmas day from October to keep the buzz fresh in the voter's minds.

I'm hoping that the trailer was just poorly edited.
