Posted: 6/4/08 at 9:08amI've never tried DiFara's. I ate at Totonno's for the first eight years of my life, though! There and Carolina Restaurant (now closed).

Posted: 6/4/08 at 9:26amnever been to DiFara's, but cant wait to try it! The only NYC pizza i've ever had is Ray's Pizza and i always thought it was pretty damn good... but i've always been a tourist, so when we finally move next month hopefully i'll discover new places.

Two Boots has a limited fan base because you've got to like corn meal crust and hot and spicy sauce. It's far from my favorite.
For slices, my favorite is Ben's in soho.
For whole pies, I like Arturo's on Houston but I love the pizzeria near me, Rivolli on 7 th ave near 11th.

You actually have to travel to Queens for my favorite pizza... Twins Pizza in Astoria. Nothing like it.
A close second is outside the city, in Stamford, CT: Michael's Pizza.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...

Two Boots sells a designer pizza that tastes good but is not a classic New York pizza.
I would vote for any of hundreds (thousands?) of neighborhood, non-chain pizzerias around the 5 boroughs, often Greek-owned not Italian, which bake their pizzas in Bari ovens and feature moderately thin crusts, perfectly browned on the bottom, slightly doughy on top, each with its own unique balance of tomato sauce and cheese.

I'm not ashamed to say that pizza is my favorite food. I'm a purist, though. I prefer a plain pizza, fresh garlic if I add anything.
It's up to about $4 in some places already. I guess I'll always pay what they ask for pizza!

Posted: 6/4/08 at 10:38amArguing over which is the best Pizza in New York is like arguing over the best theater in Bug Tussle, Arkansas. Come to Chicago and see what real pizza is like.

Been there
I find Chicago, like NYC is just as hit or miss. Some places are outstanding. Other places downright suck.

Pshaw, this from a city who puts celery salt on hot dogs.
(Is this where I'm supposed to thump my chest and shout something about the Giants winning the Superbowl thingie?)

Joe, I think deep dish pizza is Chicago's forte, right?
I prefer flat pizza!

It's kinda low-brow, but St. Mark's Pizza is really tasty.
Do NOT attempt more than one slice, though. They are huge.
I once ate 2 eggplant slices and was sick for 2 days.

Posted: 6/4/08 at 10:58amMe too, blue. However, the place near me, Rivoli, doesn't have thin crust. What I love about theirs is that it's very greasy, slithery and succulent (oy, I'm getting carried away).

Chicago is a thick pizza town, but also churns out spectacular thin crust (Pat's!), which we perversely insist on cutting into squares, not triangles.

Posted: 6/4/08 at 11:03amThat does it! I'm going to have to buy a pie today. I like to have a slice or two, and freeze the rest.
