I love di fara's pizza but in no way is it worth waiting that long to have a slice. $5.00 a slice in a totally filthy and disgusting atmosphere is not enjoyable to me. I live in Brooklyn so I have many other options for good pizza.
The man who owns and operates Di Fara's does do everything himself and each pie is made with love and is fresh. That I will say but standing around waiting.....forgetaboutit.

I like it hot and spicy and I like the cornmeal crust so Two Boots is very good.
Otto is very good on the high-end scale as is Gonzo.
Of course, John's on Bleecker Street is the old standby.
Lombardi's IS also great and I really like the clams and bacon pizza at Don Giovanni in the Theatre District. There used to be one in Chelsea but I don't know if it's still there.

I haven't been to DiFara's yet, but I'll take your word for it, Tiny.
Two Boots is just okay for me.
One of my favorites is SINGAS in Elmhurst, Queens.

this thread made me decide to try WHOLE FOODS pizza for lunch today...my first time.
i had the roasted eggplant with fresh mozz & basil. they heat it in the pizza oven on demand.
it was quite tasty; not the TASTE SENSATION i was anticipating (it wouldve been better if they left it in the oven longer), but still very good.
they sell it by the pound (7.99 per) but you can tell them whatever size you want (the lady behind me requested a 1 inch strip of 3 different kinds...& they did it! thats a smart idea.). i had a generous slab that came to 5.50.
i'll try it again, but next time i will take it home & heat it til its good 'n' bubbly!
i like a blistered crust!

Posted: 6/4/08 at 2:10pmThere's another place in Astoria called Sac's on 29th and Broadway that has stunning brick-oven pizza. Perfect sauce...not too sweet...not too spicy. Just savory WOP goodness. And their Sicilian pie, which is of supreme importance to me, is stunning. Just glorious.

" stunning brick-oven pizza.. And their Sicilian pie, which is of supreme is stunning. Just glorious."
Anyone who uses the above adjectives to describe pizza, (or any food) is okay in my book!

Did I double use 'stunning', though?
I'm disappointed in myself. But really...there's no other way to describe it.
Only pizza that I've had that's better is my mom's. Now THAT is heaven!

Two Boots' sauce is on the spicy side, but just barely. I like that it has that extra kick, as well as the incredibly crispy crust.
I was born and raised in Chicago, and I feel like I have had enough Chicago pizza to last a lifetime. To me, one of the worst parts about Chicago pizza is access: in most parts of the Chicago area, there are no places where you can just walk up to a counter and point to a slice of pizza that you want. Oh, except Sbarro at the malls. In New York, you can't walk 10 feet without having a choice of ready-to-go slices at the counters, at all hours.
But when I'm home, I never bring any of this up, because Chicago people are wayyyyyyy way way sensitive about suggesting that anything about NY is better, especially the pizza.

Another thing that Two Boots is missing is that "stretchablility" factor. You know, when all the ingredients are nice a sliding all over the place. I'm sure there are people who like a kind of dry and crunchy pizza, but I like the oozing, dripping kind!
I still do go for some Two Boots when I'm in that mood, though.
