My friend Alice who battled both breast and ovarian cancer. She was an RN who worked at a Cancer Treatment Center and knew full well what was happening to her. She fought a good fight, determined to see her daughters grow from young teens into strong young women. She especially wanted to stay long enought to see youngest daughter be able to drive and be as independent as possible. She died a week after J. passed her road test. That was 3 years ago and I still cry when I think of her.

And, my friend Shelton who died a week ago today after a battle with bone cancer. He was a fabulous man.

This thread is doing a good work.

I happen to work in cancer research. The unfortunate thing about spending this much time in front of a computer is having to crunch all the numbers from the data I get.

"Doing something about cancer" encompasses many things. For those who can't actively "do" something, clicking a button to help others get screened and diagnosed is hardly doing "nothing."

Not to mention, remembering and supporting loved ones who have struggled and fought against the disease, some who have survived, others who may not have, is also doing "something" for the cause.

All of this is certainly better than dismissing a reminder to help the cause. For all of your offense at the thread, TheGaIsSilent, I am more than offended by your actions on this thread.

KMC - beautifully stated, and obviously from the heart. The only possible rationalization I can think of for Ga's attack is if she lost someone to cancer and was either bitter or felt let down by the medical community. But that still wouldn't excuse this boorishness. Ultimately, it's just a ridiculous and indefensible offensive posture - and I hope the repeated bumping of the thread gives her gas.

Personally, I don't care why Ga is doing what she's doing--that's her problem.

Hijacking a thread like this to for your own petty purposes is
1) rude; 2) demonstrates poor judgment; and 3)is not the purpose of the Off-Topic Board.

If she has generous concerns about this thread, she ought to contact Rob or Craig.

THAT would be the RESPONSIBLE way to handle the situation.

I'm appalled by GAs persistent gripping about this thread. Why on earth does she care about this particular message. Is she venting on any other of the OT threads? Surely she can find something to be offended about on one of those.

GA...you don't have to open any thread you don't want to. Use your ability to choose and choose to stay away if this one bothers you so much.
