Posted: 5/16/11 at 8:06amSaw it last night and I really enjoyed it! It was a full audience ($5 for Sunday movies- can't beat that!) and sometimes I even laughed at the audience's reactions. My daughter hated the Bridal Shop scene- she has a high gag reflex. Melissa McCarthy was hilarious and I love Maya! Felt the chemistry between her and Kristin. Sometimes, I could hear Kristin's Penelope character. There were parts of the movie that were very charming. This is definitely a hit and I liked it much better than The Hangover!

Melisa McCarthy made this film for me. It would have been SO easy just to make this character a repressed lesbian rather than the big boned optimistic very definately hetero gal. ( eating the bear sandwich at the end of the film!) She is also the machinery that helps bring the film to it's resultion w/out too much obvious-ness.
Did love the "drive bys" too.

Thanks for your reviews. You're making me want to see this. Not a big moviegoer, so I just go to the most obviously recommended ones. But this one actually sounds hilarious and relatable.
I hope Hollywood doesn't start releasing 5 billion movies like this.

I didn't think it was too long--I couldn't stop laughing and loved every second. Wiig was terrific but I loooooved Melissa McCarthy.
I was thrilled to see Chris O'Dowd on the big screen! He's in one of the funniest Britcoms around...The IT Crowd.

Totally missed this thread the first time around.
Saw it on BD last month and loved it.
I'm seriously hoping McCarthy gets an Oscar nod (she won't).
If anyone watched the deleted scenes you'll notice they filmed several versions of the scene where McCarthy gives Wiig a pep talk. Only the original scene was with Jill Clayburgh giving the talk (it happens at the gas station just before Wiig sets up Clayburgh with the guy who works there).
It's a testament to McCarthy's performance that her version of the scene is what made it into the final film.
Favorite scene: Wiig and Rose Byrne trying to out-do each other with their speeches at the rehearsal.
Also, John Hamm stole all his scenes. He was perfect. I'm laughing right now thinking about him kicking Wiig out post coitus.

I wouldn't be surprised if McCarthy gets nominated, taz. There still seems to be a lot of buzz around her performance--perhaps even more now. I also think it stands a fair shot at a screenplay nomination.
I'd love to see Wiig nominated for Best Actress, but I think THAT would be a long shot.

I can totally see it happening, especially on the heels of her Emmy, which will boost her profile immensely. Not to mention she may have a pretty good shot at bagging a Golden Globe or two. I enjoyed this film much more than I anticipated and my first thought was Oscar nom for McCarthy. Every once in a while, I have an immediate reaction to a film or a performance the moment I finish watching a film and the Academy agrees. It's rare, but I hope this is the case with McCarthy. She was the funniest thing about Samantha Who and I'm excited her career has taken off.
