re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Well, I think being respectful means no personal attacks or use of foul language--and I believe I did nothing like that...

P.S. So far, I have not received any PMs stating my posts are inappropriate...

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Beav--you are entitled to YOUR Opinion, and I respect you for it.

You are also CORRECT when you state that I will stand by my original post and will not apologize for MY opinion.

I have had various interactions with other Posters who have treated me rather harshly--AGAIN, in MY opinion.

All I have done is "pick up the pieces" and moved on.

I think that is all ANY of us can do.

Now that the category Boards Biggest Asshole has been added, can I please get a nod? re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Mary_Ethel,

Your opinions have been stated. If you have anything further to say, that's fine. However, you are becoming repetitive and are taking away from the fun that the rest of us are having.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Gee, why don't you follow your own suggestion and just "ignore" it?

I'm not attempting to be obnoxious, I'm just curious...

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

My suggestion to ignore it was because we are not MEANING to be offensive. If you find offense in it, that's fine. I'm sorry for you. I'm sorry for any offense that may be caused due to our event. That was not my intention.

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

M_E, that's not usually something to be proud of. Generally, being confrontational makes you seem obnoxious in the eyes of others.

While I agree with elements of your original post, I do not agree with the way you have handled yourself on this thread. You are not adding to the topic at hand, you have now made it all about you by insisting on addressing everyone's issues with your original cantankerous post.

That's not being a good member of the community. Feel free to read other threads, or this one... but also please feel free to stay on topic.

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Personally I find so called "trivia" threads about as informative and justified as this thread. We all have crosses we carry, some just do it more silently. But for someone who stated that they willing to give as much attention to a thread as it deserves...well, your post keep piling up.

I could offer an opinion on why I think that is, but suspect that one would find that offensive also.
Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Mary_Ethel, I understand all of your posts about treatment and respect and agree with them. However, since this thread does not seem to be against the guidelines, I don't understand your original objection. Some people like things like the Tony's and Oscars, which you said originally you did not care for, others do not. If someone starts an "Avenue Q should have won the Tony" thread that may not be agreeable to everyone but it almost certainly would not hurt someone.
With this even if some BWW member got a big head about winning say "Most Respected Poster" and used that as criteria to say their posts are more important, there are many people who would (rightly)point out how stupid that is.
The thing is I still don't understand how a "popularity contest" amoung the board effects you personally.
I hope that is understandable, I am in no way saying you should or should not have had the reaction you did, I just can not understand and would like to see your side more clearly.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Okay.

IMO, This Thread was The Thread That "broke the camel's back."

In the past few months, We have seen such Threads as "Which BWWers Would You Like To Meet?"; "Who Are Your Favorite BWWers", etc.

AGAIN, IMO, they were all popularity contests (at a somewhat non-adult level) and I saw that some people really got their feelings hurt by what was said about them or when they were ignored.

I exchanged PMs with quite a few other folks who felt the same way I did.

As I said, when I saw this Thread, all the anger at what those other Threads had done to some good people (either intentionaly or unintentionaly--I cannot "mind read" the intent of the creator of those Threads) burst forth which lead to the posts that I made in this Thread.

I hope that answers your question, Penguin.

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Mary_Ethel,

I have received several PMs of support on my side, as well.

So why not agree to disagree? Why keep pushing? Is my opinion wrong? Do you feel the need to keep promoting your point until I change my mind? Until I apologize?

Too late. I already apologized for something I did not intend to do. But my opinion does not change.

re: BROADWAYWORLD MEMBER AWARDS: And The Nominees Are...

Sounds to me like you (and these others) are giving these "popularity threads" more attention than they deserve according to your scheme of things, M_E. If you're so troubled by that type of thread why do you read it? I actually had no idea people were exchanging angry PMs about this, or that there was any controversy. You know why? Because I never read those threads. I only read this one because it came up when I searched for my own name in the OT engine, looking for something else entirely.

If you think these threads are better ignored, ignore them. All in all, I don't think they have nearly the "hellish" impact you ascribe to them, though I am a bit troubled by your account of people's feelings being hurt. If you must point out that they're popularity contests, you ought to at least have the dignity to do so in a subtle and polite manner, because you're in that thread's territory. Why is it okay for you to anger people with that confrontational attitude you're so proud of, but not okay for Capn for start this thread, which I'm sure he never intended to hurt anyone?

Block me? For...?

No matter. Perhaps its for the best. I don't understand you're thinking, Mary_Ethel. I truly am sorry for you.

Of all the things to block someone for... I mean, his posts on this thread have been nothing but polite, even if he disagreed with you. And I'm with ckeaton - I can understand the point of your original post, but I don't see why you felt the need to respond they way you did when people disagreed with you.
