I'm no expert but to me Spidey's sounds pretty professional. am I close?

Well that is a valid point. We do need to test things out to see if the balance is there. Good point. And, yes, the sound difference for 86 was a 180--and will likely affect the votes for him. I do get that sometimes the quality will affect people--especially when all things else are equal.

Spidey's and jrb's sound relatively professional, I thought. Same with 86's "Home" and "Amazing", and JAC's "OSG" and "Your Eyes". I think Allie's audio is really quite good, considering that she's using her ear phones, and thank God, Cam's around to increase the volume of her vocals too.

That is the thing though, the high quality recordings are not "better" in many cases, they just sound- overproduced.

I think for everyone it has an effect on there is one of us that is has none whatsoever on- therby evening out the question and making it moot.

Maybe we should have an a cappella week...so far I've found if I max out the Treble, I can hear the voices slightly better. I just couldn't give WS2 a higher mark since I could only hear the piano for the most part. I think Allie's a good example, though, of somewhat crappy audio quality whose voice still sounds good. There is a balance there - it's just that we need to hear the voice to make a sound judgment.

Well, maybe but some of the singers sounded so quiet on my computer that I literally couldn't make an honest judgment.

I gave my highest marks of the contest this week. I'm happy. An 8.4 is the highest I've given...is that too low? I really am quite impressed by several of the clips so far.

What's with that. You could actually hear her not just clearly, but well? I wonder if there's something wrong with MY speakers then. If I play at a normal volume with treble in the middle, I can't hear anything until she hits her upper register. And I couldn't hear 86's last week at all.

I think it is good that the judges give different style scores, although since the other two have a larger range it makes your scores almost (though not entirely) meaningless. It is almost as if you just gave them all the same score.

That's true. I never noticed that - there's usually only 1.0 - 1.5 points separating the top from the bottom. I probably should spread them more.
