Kid Rock is not C&W. He's fun, though.
...roots in traditional folk music, Celtic Music, Blues, Gospel music, and Old-time music.
Hmmm...okay, those are the parameters we'll use. Yay for Wiki!
And I would LOVE if someone did Kid Rock. What about that song he did with Sheryl Crow?
Rath, PM me the title and your name in the subject heading.
Yeah. "Picture." Not a country song, Tiff.
I'm doing Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, or Big River.
Haven't decided yet. I'll know by tomorrow afternoon.
Can we get a definition of country music from you Rath? Actually when you saw country Music...Dolly does come to mind...hrrrm, Reba, and Tim McGraw, Faith Hill. Can I make an argument for Greatful Dead?
Stevie Nicks?!??! Country? Lynyrd Skynyrd!
Owwww...can someone do Landslide? <3 Okaaaay, you were right jrb, I do have one country-ish song I do like...that I won't admit to liking publically.

I'd say everyone in your first paragraph except Grateful Dead.
All people have to do is look up the Billboard country chart for any date.
Not Greatful Dead!
Garth Brooks
Clint Black
The Judds
Alan Jackson
Lonestar
Rascal Flatts
Carrie Underwood
Reba
Dolly
Willie Nelson
Kenny Rogers
Tanya Tucker
Lorrie Morgan
Patsy Cline
Tim McGraw
Faith Hill
LeAnn Rimes
Lyle Lovett
Johnny Cash
Oakridge Boys
Alabama
Brooks & Dunn
Ricky van Shelton
George Strait
etc
I know Willie Nelson!
Okay, if someone does Willie Nelson, I'm happy. "Georgia On My Mind" - someone!!
There ya go.
Thanks, jrb.
Not Stevie Nicks. Not Lynyrd Skynyrd--though they are sorta country rock, they are definitely filed under rock n roll at Virgin Megastore.
So "Sweet Home Alabama" doesn't pass?
Rath--I am doing a song by Rascal Flatts . . . so I too have stuck with the category. And I agree, "I'll Be" is NOT country. But, whatever floats your boat.
"Sweet Home Alabama" is borderline---and I think you guys could allow it. "I'll Be" is pop/rock--so it would have to be done C&W style to be C&W. Garth did this with "Shameless".
I guess what really matters is the style you perform it. There were two different songs in recent years that were done both by a C&W artist AND by a boy band--"This I Promise You" and "I Swear".
WHY am I helping my competition with this information!?!? lol
All the contestants should run the choices by me and I will tell you if it is country or not. "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain is NOT country. "I'll Be" by Reba McEntire is. And you can do "Landslide" only if you do the Dixie Chicks version. You people are hopeless.
And Tiff, the Dolly song "Imagine" that was mentioned earlier was just a different version of John Lennon's.
And Spider, what Rascal Flatts song? My friend may have written it!
Because I'm keeping a mental note that JRB and Rath know what the hell they are doing.
Okay Ebby, the general consensus is "I'll Be" isn't country.
But if people do "Georgia On My Mind" and "Always On My Mind", I will be very, very, VERY happy.
Here's the thing - the point of this competition, just ilke American Idol, is to see how polished and versatile you are. There is a point to having different genres. The most well-rounded person should win.
If you're singing theater songs in the pop category, or pop songs in the country category, you're not showing what needs to be heard, and you will suffer in the end.
The end.
JerseyGirl, it's not the same "Imagine", eejit! Or if it is, she mangled it BADLY beyond recognition. I only heard the second half.
If ebby adds some twang and country flair, "I'll Be" could be crossover. I bet he could get that song to swing both ways!
Word, Rath. Read my FAQ, which contains one question: "Why the hell did the judges choose country?"
And AHEM - "If people do "Georgia On My Mind" and "Always On My Mind", I will be very, very, VERY happy."
Tiff, I am telling you, it is the same, as horrid as it is. Google it...lol. And doncha be callin me no eejit till ya check yo facts, biyotch! I saw her do it live on TV recently, too.

But you can't do Tiff's songs like Ray and Frank. You gotta make em the Willie Nelson version or the like!
Though, Ray Charles did put out C&W albums...
Yeah, no it has to be done like Willie Nelson. And it should be anyway - I enjoy his version, it reminds me of when my dad used to sing to me when I was a toddler - back when we got along. I've got a daddy complex, what can I say. So SOMEONE better do it.
ETA: Oh my GOD, Jersey, you're right! She's AWFUL!! *bows down to you*

This is all making me very sad. Please do a COUNTRY song, everybody! Another vote for no Edwin McCain here.
*shakes head* SERIOUSLY!
