I only saw one woman and her son. Was there a community standing behind her off camera? I seem to see the representation of the "gay community" present here pretty against what seems to be happening on the video.

Is exactly what I would have said in response if Jersey Girl hadn't already.

And growl, I'm not 100% behind what Savage says in the last paragraph either, although I'm not sure what an compromise solution is. I guess the main jist that I agree with is the part about non using kids for this kind of thing (which most of us posting here seem to agree with, even if we're marching out of step with the [Goth's] GAY COMMUNITY's proclamation that these kinds of shenanigans with children are appropriate).

Do I think putting kids up to something like this is worse than what happens with this Elijah kid? Absolutely.

Of course Westboro is about as extreme a counterexample as one could make. It's like the contemporary version of Godwin's Law, though Goth did pretty good by summoning Saddam Hussein. I'm hoping to see Pol Pot's name pop up here before the thread is finished.

And, yeah, if he was put up to it, I absolutely agree with all the condemnations already seen upthread. As far as Savage's comments go, I don't see the need for a compromise. It's not like the kid wanted to spit in her face. That's something you stop an overzealous 8-year-old from doing. Allowing him to do what he did -- if, indeed, he acted autonomously -- is actually pretty important. It's much better than stifling it, which on some level instills a sort of self-victimization.

I'm not sure this kid was coerced by his mom, but maybe just shy when he went to say something important to him. Maybe Bachman had bad breath.

It's possible he wasn't referring to Bachman's stance on homosexuality, but rather her controversial plan to have all women spayed.

Yeah...what everybody else pretty much said...pimping children out so you can get Youtube hits is pretty slimy. A kid that young just doesn't care about politics.
