So glad it wasn't just me. I was thinking "God, it's annoying enough when male children are named after their father (right George Foreman?), but this is beyond annoying and into creepy."

Thank you, PCB (I'd call you "pop," but a certain self-absorbed penguin will think I am talking to him), for introducing the word "creepy." I also felt it was creepy. And I'm not sure why. I hope it's not some sort of latent misogyny.
Probably is. If they'd had a boy and named him Ennis Jr, we'd have thought it was cute. Although I don't believe anyone is even called Ennis. Annie Proulx's character names drive me up the wall. Petal Bear. Cheri Wham. NOBODY is called that.

Eh, I don't find it creepy with men, but I hate it nonetheless. I'm reminded of living in the South, where ever other man in my town seemed to be named Junior.
My mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all share(d) the same name. That doesn't creep me out, but none of them were every called "junior." Is there even a female equivalent of the word in English?
you've found me out, kringas. damn you for dragging this thread back into the unholy realm of female juniors. you'll pay for this. if it's the last thing i do, i swear i'll make you pay for this.
this was one of those points in the movie where me and the mrs. looked at each other and laughed much louder than we should have judging by the looks we got.

It's. Just. Weird. I wish I could put my finger on exactly what it is. It's just so weird.
And frankly, Papa, don't you think I've paid enough?

Papa axed, "is wyoming the south?"
No, it is not. And the person who who wrote that this story took place in the south supports my assertion that the movie is a rorschach test and that people come with their own preconceptions about what it's going to tell them.
I'm more with jrb who says such details are unimportant. I agree, as to location, there is no there there in Brokeback Mountain.
And oh yea, guess what JRB, ya click on a thread titled "Bareback Mountain" as this one is, and it's BOUND to be irreverent. So maybe this isn't the thread to advise people not to click on threads they don't want to see.
(Thanks to the later entries in this thread I realized I've been abbreviating it as BBM when more accurately it should be called BM, thanks for making that distinction, Kringas.)
JRB, it's interesting to see that you're going out of your way to point out that the discussions you have here are not meant to be taken personally when it seems to me (and maybe others or is it just me?) that every crack about BM or Madonna hits you like a fist in the face.
No, the lack of respect for other posters' opinions is my problem. But now I suppose you will wax eloquent about how you have always been that way and that I have changed and blah blah blah psychobabble BS to take any of that off of you and place it on me blah blah blah fart.
Well, baby, I get it. Jerby is the new Rath. Well, go on, girl. Beat me up for standing up to you. It's all good. I CAN take it. I may even enjoy it. Hit me with your best shot. Fire away. I know I have been due. I'm amazed it took this long.

Wow. And you called Kringas a masochist.
Well it WAS meant as a compliment!

"Beat me up... Hit me..."
Takes me right back to the Mineshaft. Thank god they had snacks for all the beating and hitting we tops had to do.
Well, I was actually hoping to BE the snack...

I just saw this thread. Is this about those gay cowboys that are making such noise?
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/27/05
The thread is organic. It's in constant flux.
shepherds... they're shepherds...
Kringas, are you still getting beaten up?
Broadway Legend Joined: 1/14/05
C - seriously - are they herding sheep? I have not seen the movie.
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/27/05
addy, it's all in a day's work when you're a cheerleader for repressed gay love.

Wow, no wonder my gay cowboy jokes are not funny.
Is this the thread about the gay shepherds who are winning all those awards?
sounds like lots of work, Kringas...
Let me know if you want a pink drink.

Don't forget the sodomy, brdlwyr. And the love.
Addy, it is hard work, but it's my calling.
