Let's go Yankees!

Home opener tonight against the Red Sox! I hope it stops raining so they can play and the Sox can get an a$$ whooping!

Red Sox!!!

Hey there...none of that! My boys are going to be so pumped coming off their big win from their last jaunt at Yankee Stadium that they're going to knock the pinstripes right off the Yanks' uniforms!!!

*suddenly feels she's jinxed the Sox, but refuses to take that bold statement back!*

re: Yankees!

I've got a new avatar in your honor liotte! I tried one of A-Rod bitchslapping the ball w/ a photoshpped purse slung over his arm, but it I was having issues cropping it and it was just too damn small...couldn't diminish the glory that was that photo, so I've opted for the good ol' glove to the face!

re: Yankees!

Oh Liotte, I'd SO love to, but I've seriously got so much homework to do. I have a half a book to finish reading, a paper, and a project that I need to polish up for a presentation tomorrow morning. I'll have to be gamedaying and doing work in tandem! *biiiig sigh* This is what happens when you curl up watching movies on a rainy day, go ice skating in Central Park (seriously, I'm insanely proud of myself for not wiping out even once on Friday!) and spending unhealthy amounts of time on BWW. I've been spending the day slooooowly picking away at my work, but I've been urber-lazy lately! Still in spring break mode, methinks! re: Yankees!

re: Yankees!

Ok, we'll watch (or go to) another game together! Good luck with the homework!

I'll be at a bar cheering on the yanks with a zillion other fans, it's such a fun atmosphere. If you change your mind, let me know!

re: Yankees!

Will do...If I have a sudden burst of willpower in the next couple hours and manage to put a significant dent in my pile, I'll be in touch! *sigh...I can't wait for summer*

Oh...PS...Go Sox! re: Yankees!

re: Yankees!

I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan, and can't wait for tonight...actually, I can't wait for the Red Sox home opener in which they'll get their rings (while which team is there? :))
And even though THAT other team has more series championships, the one thing they don't have is...a ring with 2004 on it!!!! It's ours!! Hehehe. I live for these games (whem I'm not attending Broadway shows, that is). The best of both worlds.

re: Yankees!

Now, isn't it telling that the cover of a book about the Red Sox's World Series victory is the same as mabel's av- a picture of Jason Varitek bravely fighting A-Rod with his catcher's gear on?

The curse that didn't exist in the first place is broken, and most of the Red Sox fans I know are still fixated on the Yankees and how much they "suck." Get over it, people. You have your championship- now you're a team like any other. The inferiority complex just doesn't make sense anymore.

And I'm looking forward to tonight's game because it's two damn good teams matching up.

re: Yankees!

I haven't seen that book Plum, but that picture would be so far down on the list of what I'd want on there as a fan it's ridiculous. I don't know why they wouldn't have a jubilant team shot from the WS. I mean that piture, regardless of the fact that I find it highly amusing (let's not pretend that A-Rod wasn't mouthing off, and forget Tanyon Sturtze jumping...who was it Kapler...from behind. It was a scrappy brawl on both ends!)...Anyway, back to the point, why the hell would a photo from June (or was it July) be on the WS book cover. Yeah, wasn't much of a point, I know.

Part of the fun of being a fan of either of these teams is "hating" the other. I don't take it too seriously, but being a native New Englander, there was no way I was going over to the "other side" just because I moved to NYC. Honestly Plum, it's not like it's only the Red Sox fans that have fanatical tendencies when it comes to these two teams. Had the Yankees swept the Sox in game 4, masses of Yanks fans would be reveling in it and going on and on about how we choked.

ETA: Obviously neither team sucks, or else they wouldn't have made it to the ALCS the past two years, dragging out to Game 7. They're both great teams, and it's when they're both great in tandem that the rivalry becomes more fun to watch play out!

re: Yankees!

When the Yankees won the World Series in, say, 1999 (after an ALCS vs. the Red Sox), they didn't chant "Red Sox Suck" at the victory parade. Because it wasn't about defeating the Red Sox, it was about winning the World Series. But Boston is the only town that would yell "Yankees Suck" when their football team wins the championship. One side is more fixated than the other, at least in my experience.

Anyway, I think it's brilliant that the Red Sox won the championship. Maybe some people on both sides will be able to think past cliche when it comes to the rivalry.

re: Yankees!

Eh, I'll give you that Plum! We do break out the "Yankees Suck" chant at really inopportune times (even while I was waiting in line to see U2 in Broolyn...must say that was pretty brazen!)

In the end, I'm just hoping for an exciting game...not an asswhooping on either end. Seriously, no matter who you're a fan of, Games 4, 5, and 6 were pretty amazing! Close, extra innings, epically long nail-biters. The way the playoffs should be! Baseball at it's finest!!

Oh Tiff, so sad about the NHL...re: Yankees!

re: Yankees!

Wah! I did that whole social life thing- went out to dinner and saw Twelfth Night- and I actually missed part of the Yankees' opener. Where are my priorities going?

ETA- Is it just me, or did ESPN not have walks as part of their box scores before? Thank the friggin' Lord they got their act together.

Hmmm...I'd never noticed on ESPN.

What a fine acquisition David Wells is proving himself to be. Yes, I know it's the first game, and we've got a long way to go...buuuuut...*sigh*

Ooooh...hit for Tek! We're totally mounting a comeback!

ETA: Scratch that...I hrt leaving men on base!
