Yankees

Hey guys...I haven't posted in a while, but since it was up near the top, I figured I'd pop in.

Ouch!!! The Yanks are in some kind of funk! The thing is though, and I'm not meaning to gloat here, it's just something my dad and I were musing over...I really think they had this coming. You always hear about them being so great at coming from behind and winning, but seriously, is that such a great quality. A lot of that has to do w/ luck. Luck of what batter happens to be up for that last at bat, luck of who the closer is and if that single individual has good stuff on any given night. They totally were totally primed for another miraculous come from behind win in game 3 against The Royals, but you can only squeak by that way so many times. Sure, it's great to be able to pull off a come from behind win, but didn't they have 40-something last season?!? That's a hell of a lot of games that could easily have been lost. I know I'm rambling, and I'm coming off my first week at work for the summer, so I know for sure I'm not at my most lucid and articulate, but does any of that make sense?!?! Whatever...with that being said, The Yankees are bound to come out of their funk, just like they did earlier this season. They'll get right back to their beyond lucky ways (seriously, did anyone see that catch Jeter made a couple of weeks ago when he ran straight into someone in shallow right/center? They were talking about what an amazing catch it was on YES or ESPN, but really he was just friggin lucky! More power to him/them, but that's my stance on the matter and I'm sticking to it! Sorry Plum, Liotte!
But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

Mabel, "luck" is the word I use to explain everything that can't be explained with statistics. This? Can be explained with statistics. When you have absolutely horrible defense at most positions and feast-or-famine hitting and pitching, your team's going to have problems. No luck involved.

Well, with their "horrible defense at most positions and feast-or-famine hitting and pitching," wouldn't you say it was luck that got them through that 14 out of 16 game winning tear (or whatever it was) not so long ago? They are a much more lack-luster team than they were back in the glory days of yester year, and I think they have been the past few seasons...they could only get away with it for so long...Though I still maintain, they'll get it pulled together, somehow, and still make a run for it. I mean hell, they lost 6 straight and aren't THAT far out! Anything's possible at this stage of the game.

I like that attitude Mabel!! Especially coming from a Red Sox fan!

Yankees

Well, it is always more fun when the Yanks and Sox are neck and neck! Yankees I can't wait for Tuesday...5 of the Sox are going to be on Queer Eye. That should be amusing! I guess they're all going to tomorrow's game to throw out the first pitch! Pity I won't be able to see it in NY!

You should be watching the Tonys tomorrow night anyway!

Yankees

I know! I will be! The game's on in the afternoon. Maybe I'll make my mom tape the pre-game stuff on NESN tomorrow.

Damn, poor Bronson just can't catch a beak. He leaves after 6 (after only giving up 2 runs) and then they go and give up 5 runs and the lead. *sigh*

Yeah, I didn't catch the final score, but it didn't sound pretty...at all! Booo!!!

Mabel, it all falls in my assessment. Feast-or-famine means sometimes you feast- and have a 10-game winning streak- and sometimes you starve and get swept by Kansas City. There's no consistency, and the overall result is mediocre.

C'mon, Bernie...

We got our asses kicked again too. I was surprised Clement did so badly. He's been doing really well so far this season...oh well, everyone's entitled to one horrific start, I suppose.

Just watched the Brewers kick some ass for the second time in a row. Ooooooooooh snap!
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"

Ooh, a new team on this thread! I actually don't like the Brewers, an ex-boyfriend of mine is from Milwaukee, and all he ever did was talk about sports and play MLB on his Sony Playstation with the Brewers as his team. It was a horrible relationship.
