Moose! What are you doing???

re: Yankees!

*le sigh*

I wonder if something's happened to Mussina? Maybe he just needs extra time to get revved up for the season. Quite frankly, if he doesn't get it together, the Yankees are in deep ****. Just look at last year.

*kicks computer*

Stupid slow updates.

ETA- And there's the only way Bernie's getting on base these days. How sad it is to watch him now- all his bat speed is gone and he has no range in center. I still love the guy, but he needs to move positions.

re: Yankees!

Wooohooo! Sorry guys, but I'm so glad they won the game I went to!

I had a really great time. I was a little freaked for a while this morning, because when I went to get the tix (the guy gave me his address and phone # and we'd arranged last night for me to get there around 10 and just call him)...Anyway, I got there as planned and no one answered the phone. I left a message w/ my number and like 45 minutes later called back again ready to give up, but they answered that time, and I got the tix.

So, the tix were in Tier 5 (way the hell up there, but behind home plate). I must say though, we had some crazy-ass, rowdy fans in our section (certainly made for a fun game!) I was telling my friend towards the beginning of the game how I was kind of hoping for a brawl (guilty pleasure...I love me a good brawl!) Well, no brawls on the field, but there was one a few rows behind us! A Sox fan (hat/jersey and all) had a "Juice Man Giambi" poster, and this rabid Yankees fan just went berzerk! This guy was nuts. He was totally wasted before the game even started and was heckling some of the women walking by and stuff (the Sox sign guy looked pretty ratty too, btw). Well, the Yanks guy crawled over a bunch of seats and there was a bit of a tussle between the two. I felt really bad for the guy who happened to be sitting where the altercation took place...it got kind of hostile! Security had to come and it took them a while to break things up...Of course, I didn't bring my camera!

The other guys sitting around us were also totally smashed before the game started. As an observation, I've never heard so many F-bombs in my ENTIRE LIFE! It was hilarious...seriously, I'd love to know how many this one guy let fly! Hundreds? Thousands? Twas a SH*Tload, that's for sure!

Anyway, to the game. Obviously I'm excited because the Sox won, but it was a great game. It was super close right to the end. Wake had a great game! You're right Plum, he does tend to do really well against the Yankees. He always makes me so nervous, because he can have a came like this wehre (even though he gave up two HRs, he wasn't overly erratic, and he didn't give up all that many hits, etc...But then the next game, he can go out there and give up 6 runs by the 5th.

COULD NOT BELIEVE Timlin! What the hell?!?!? I couldn't tell, did he hit Jeter in the head??? The girls in front of us stood up just before that, so I missed it. Between that, walking the bases loaded. Oy! I figured that was it!

What a hell of a comeback, too. Rivera may be the best closer in the game, but the Sox have his number. I don't know if it's the fact that we've just seen him so much that he looses a bit of his edge, or if he's (to some extent) let it affect him mentally that we have more success against him, but it's like he's a different pitcher against the Sox. I thought there may have been a chance for us to tie it up, or maybe go up by one, but I never would have expected to break out like that! Even lil Bellhorn got in on the action!

So yeah...all in all, twas a great afternoon out. It was such a beautiful day (even though our seats were in the shade). It was so nice to be able to just hang out in a t-shirt (almost went for the sandals, but opted against it at the last minute). I'm loving the fact that spring is officially here!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

re: Yankees!

I'm going to the game! Yay! Go Yankees!

re: Yankees!

Cubs home game tomorrow. I have had tickets for the last several years, but did not really pursue tickets this year.

Prior on rehab in Iowa getting shelled.
#162

re: Yankees!

I like prior. Not as much as Wood though.
#163

re: Yankees!

Wood is our king. When he is on - he is an artist. Same with Maddux - I saw great games last year.
#164

re: Yankees!

I get to see Sammy Sosa tomorrow in an Orioles uniform...that will be weird.
#165

re: Yankees!

The Orioles have been taking a bit of a pounding from the A's, haven't they? 9-zip and now 5-1 tonight. I think they're ready to spring back against NY (though I hope the Yanks win tomorrow for you, Liotte!) Be sure to let us know how the game goes!

re: Yankees!

Let's go Yankees (clap, clap, clap clap clap)!

Everyone look for me on TV tonight at the game! Right behind home plate in the upper deck, I'm wearing a dark blue shirt with the yankees logo on the front and Jeter 2 on the back :)
#167

re: Yankees!

Cubs opener - Wood out in sixth - no decision. 7th inning - Brewers have the bases loaded - ouch.

Liotte - should be easy to spot you????
#168

re: Yankees!

No, you probably won't see me, I'll look like everyone else...

Go Cubbies too though!
#169

re: Yankees!

Enjoy the game. Cubs up 3-2 bottom of the sevenths. (I love the MLB Gameday.)

re: Yankees!

Next time you'll have to go with the neon yellow, liotte. :)

re: Yankees!

Woohoo...The Sox won, but it seems like Foulke was super shakey. I couldn't watch the game, but got the low down over the phone. Looks like Rivera's not the only usually solid closer having some issues lately.

re: Yankees!

I'm not so sure, mabel. Bad fielding has hurt Mo in his past few blown saves. That home run to Varitek was a legit blown save, but hey, it happens.

Fact is, we've been getting these "Mariano is finished" stories every year for the past 4 years or so whenever he had a couple of blown saves in a row. And every year he proves the naysayers horrible wrong. One day age will catch up with him, but I'm not sure that day is here.

That said, today's game? Ugh.
#173

re: Yankees!

Plum, I agree that he got a raw deal w/ that booted ball by A-Rod, but still...he did load those bases. That's not typical Mo pitching. I'm certainly not saying he's done by any stretch. I mean, it's still the first week of the season!

Eeek...I hadn't checked the Yanks score before your "Ugh."

Can't wait for Monday though! Shall be interesting.

re: Yankees!

Yep, I definitely agree he's got a bit of a Red Sox weakness. He has an Orioles weakness, too. One of those weird things. But he's still Mariano until proven otherwise, you know?

Anyway, don't you think it's stupid to load up the schedule with so many Yanks/Sox games this early in the season? The opening series would have sold out even if it was against the Royals. It seems like a waste. Wait a couple of weeks before bringing out the premium product, guys.

re: Yankees!

I know...I'd rather have it all spread out so there'd potentially be a Sox/Yanks series every month (or thereabouts). It's fun to always have a series between the two around the bend, rather than have system overload right away. I'm sure that has a lot to do w/ Mo's problem w/ the Sox. They do play each other a hell of a lot, and they're often close games, which equals "bring on The Sandman."
