Wooohooo! Sorry guys, but I'm so glad they won the game I went to!
I had a really great time. I was a little freaked for a while this morning, because when I went to get the tix (the guy gave me his address and phone # and we'd arranged last night for me to get there around 10 and just call him)...Anyway, I got there as planned and no one answered the phone. I left a message w/ my number and like 45 minutes later called back again ready to give up, but they answered that time, and I got the tix.
So, the tix were in Tier 5 (way the hell up there, but behind home plate). I must say though, we had some crazy-ass, rowdy fans in our section (certainly made for a fun game!) I was telling my friend towards the beginning of the game how I was kind of hoping for a brawl (guilty pleasure...I love me a good brawl!) Well, no brawls on the field, but there was one a few rows behind us! A Sox fan (hat/jersey and all) had a "Juice Man Giambi" poster, and this rabid Yankees fan just went berzerk! This guy was nuts. He was totally wasted before the game even started and was heckling some of the women walking by and stuff (the Sox sign guy looked pretty ratty too, btw). Well, the Yanks guy crawled over a bunch of seats and there was a bit of a tussle between the two. I felt really bad for the guy who happened to be sitting where the altercation took place...it got kind of hostile! Security had to come and it took them a while to break things up...Of course, I didn't bring my camera!
The other guys sitting around us were also totally smashed before the game started. As an observation, I've never heard so many F-bombs in my ENTIRE LIFE! It was hilarious...seriously, I'd love to know how many this one guy let fly! Hundreds? Thousands? Twas a SH*Tload, that's for sure!
Anyway, to the game. Obviously I'm excited because the Sox won, but it was a great game. It was super close right to the end. Wake had a great game! You're right Plum, he does tend to do really well against the Yankees. He always makes me so nervous, because he can have a came like this wehre (even though he gave up two HRs, he wasn't overly erratic, and he didn't give up all that many hits, etc...But then the next game, he can go out there and give up 6 runs by the 5th.
COULD NOT BELIEVE Timlin! What the hell?!?!? I couldn't tell, did he hit Jeter in the head??? The girls in front of us stood up just before that, so I missed it. Between that, walking the bases loaded. Oy! I figured that was it!
What a hell of a comeback, too. Rivera may be the best closer in the game, but the Sox have his number. I don't know if it's the fact that we've just seen him so much that he looses a bit of his edge, or if he's (to some extent) let it affect him mentally that we have more success against him, but it's like he's a different pitcher against the Sox. I thought there may have been a chance for us to tie it up, or maybe go up by one, but I never would have expected to break out like that! Even lil Bellhorn got in on the action!
So yeah...all in all, twas a great afternoon out. It was such a beautiful day (even though our seats were in the shade). It was so nice to be able to just hang out in a t-shirt (almost went for the sandals, but opted against it at the last minute). I'm loving the fact that spring is officially here!
But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)
