Well I did wonder about that because it was so stunning in 3D. And some moments seem created just for 3D--though not goofily so like Jaws 3D or Friday the 13th 3D.
I did enjoy the story, so I suspect it would be good in just 2D.
ETA: That sounds so naive. Of course, the story is good. lol I mean to say I liked the way it was told.

I'm praying the dvd comes in 3-D.

I would think they could release these 3D versions on DVD--especially if in HD. I have a 42inch HD tv so I bet it would be kickass if they did.

They have released some DVDs in 3-D, but not of this caliber.
Well, not really of any caliber, in fact it was an awful remake of Night Of The Living Dead, but it was fun.

Yeah, I saw it in 3D at an IMAX theater too. Loved it.
Grendel was fun. Well, by fun...I mean, disgusting-looking. It worked. And then Angelina. My goodness.

Yeah--I think the 3rd Spy Kids film did that. And the Nightmare on Elm Street that had 3D did--I own that one lol. It's the red and blue so it's only ok. That 3D didn't seem to work so well on TV--but it wasn't so cool at the movies either.
This new kind is so amazing. Didn't Captain EO at Disney World premiere colorless 3D? That was in the 80s and it's come a long way.
They say 3D will happen more and more to deter piracy.

Only of and that it's Cameron's long overdue follow up to Titanic, not counting the docs. Could be amazing. Any word?

Speaking of Christ, did anybody else notice that, right after the king said that Christ would not be worshiped to help their land against Grendel, there was a scene with a huge portrait of J.C. right behind the action?

Avatar? The Saturday morning cartoon who looks like an anime character? I thought M. Night Shyamalan was doing that one.

Cruel - if you can, get to 3D Imax. I LOVED it in 3d, I'm not sure it'll hold up quite as well in 2D.

Nope, it's nothing in 2-D. Sort of like missing a deer instead of killing it.

My English class went last week. I missed it--took the day off as I was directly post-root canal and not feeling great, but from what everyone said (this class read the epic poem earlier this school year) it was a travesty, had nothing to do with the original plot of the text, and was glammed up and completely re-vamped to be glitzy Hollywood fluff. Which makes me very sad.
"I can't figure out what kind of life this is, comedy or tragedy, I just know it's showbiz. And what if I don't agree with the lines I have to read? They don't pay me enough, the way I see it."

My AP English class is doing that, too, Geek. We know it won't stay true to the poem, but it'll be a fun outing, I'm sure.

Yeah, I think the content of the actual poem is all played out within the first half of the movie. Or somewhere around there.

You know--Shakespeare took classic stories and adapted them, changed them and fluffed them up, too.
I don't think the filmmakers are claiming, not desire their film to be a direct translation, nor the Cliff Notes version.
ETA: And by "fluffed" I mean embellished, not dumbed down.

I won't lie--a faithful theatrical adaptation of Beowulf sounds like the world's most horrifying idea (although I love the new literary adaptation).
