So, doodlenyc turns 50 tomorrow! The coolest thing is that my husband pulled off the biggest surprise ever! We're going to London tomorrow!!! He planned it and managed to keep it a secret, including keeping so many people, including my family, from blowing the surprise!!! So looking forward to this trip! Never been to London and have all sorts of plans, but hope for suggestions from my friends here.

Some of you know my heartache recently due to the death of my mom, so this is such a mind blowing event! All planned months ago before he knew the tragedy that would come.

Just thanking you all for keeping me company these several years, and to let you know that I have the sweetest, and most loving husband ever!!

Y'all mean a lot to me, so just saying thank you!
Love,
Doodlenyc

Happy birthday and have an incredible vacation! Try to see some theatre while you're across the pond.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Many happy returns.

Try to get to the National Portrait Museum if you're into that sort of thing.

How wonderful! You're going to have such a wonderful time.

How long will you be there? And what sort of things do you like to do?

Happy Birthday Doodleydoo! What a great surprise. I took my partner there for his birthday last year! Try and do the EYE if you can. Spectacular views. I didn't want to go on it, but so glad I did. Of course The Tower of London is a must! Take it all in and enjoy. One of my most favorite cities!

HB2U, Doodle.

Try to see THE COMMITMENTS. One of our own is making his West End Debut in it! Best husband

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Last time I was in London, I had tea at the Athenaeum and it was fabulous. Chic and modern surroundings with delicious tea sandwiches and scones and fairy cakes!! I cannot recommend it enough. Be sure to hit the Duke of Wellington (a fabu gay pub) and Royal Vauxhall Tavern (oldest gay bar in London). Wait...doodle is gay right? Oh whatever, you'll still love it. I'm attaching the link for tea at the Athenaeum!
Tea!

Happy birthday! Try to take in Westminster Abbey or St Paul's Cathedral. Ignore that they are god botherers and enjoy the history. Enjoy London but be aware of pick pockets, they arrive daily from our new European cousin states.

St Paul's is one of my favorite places in London. If you have the guts and the stamina, you can climb to the top of the dome. The climb (inside via stairs, in case you were worried) is interesting all by itself--be sure to stop and try out the Whispering Gallery--but at the top there are also breathtaking views. I mean, you're at the top of St Paul's Cathedral looking out over all of London.

I agree about taking tea in one of London's storied hotels. I've enjoyed tea at the Savoy (touristy), Brown's (according to some, the model for Agatha Christie's Bertram's Hotel), Claridges (stunning Art Deco decor), and the Connaught (possibly the most serious about the food).

Most of the museums are free, so take advantage of that. (Of course, not everything is a museum, e.g. the Tower of London.) And many churches, such as St Martin-in-the-Fields, have free lunchtime concerts.

Some of my favorite London places: The rose garden at Regents Park, the Globe, the top of St. Paul's, the Eye, a Thames cruise, the food court at Harrod's, train trip to Windsor/Eton, and my absolute favorites, the Portobello Road Market and the Bermondsey Antiques Market. Even if you don't like antiques, you'll enjoy the markets.

Happi Bday kid! Enjoy Lunnon Town.

Lemme put in a word for the Sir John Soanes Museum. Brings a new meaning to the word "collector" and in a good way!

Sorry to threadjack slightly - but pickpockets aren't just Hulemann's "European cousins" - shock horror, some of them are British too. Carry on.
