romantico, almost everyone I know is like that. It's SO spot on.

Although This Is Spinal Tap is my favorite Guest & Co. film, this and Waiting for Guffman are tied for second place...depends on the day.

Justagirl2, I am glad I am not the only one. I know people who really talk and act like that. My guess is, so does Parker Posey and thats what she was doing with her character.

I hear people on their cel phones at Starbucks talk about things I would be embarrassed for anyone to hear.

re: 'Best in Show' fans unite

So, after this little walk down memory lane, I had to watch it again. And I laughed all the way through it. Again.

And I have to add - how scary an actor IS Christopher Guest?!? To think he gives these performances while also directing the piece is jaw-dropping. And if you put even just the two performances from GUFFMAN and SHOW side-by-side, it's . . . well, scary.

I've said before, and I'm still convinced, he's our most underrated actor. Lots of attention for the direction and vision, but because of that, the actual performances don't get the attention I think they deserve.

re: 'Best in Show' fans unite

I TOTALLY agree with you, DG. Every time I watch him in a film, I think the same thing you just posted.

re: 'Best in Show' fans unite

People talk about actors like Streep, who have a certain 'flare' for dialect/accent, and he's never mentioned! Look at the movie here (SHOW) - his depth of understanding of the rhythm, idioms and overall 'style' is absolutely complete. It's as if he works with a whole different voicebox every time.

I can't remember which movie it was (MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS, maybe?) but he played a British Cultural Minister (or something) - and I thought, "If I didn't know who he was, I'd wonder who this wonderful British actor is that I've never heard of."

And to some extent, I think Catherine O'Hara falls into this category, as well.

Once again, I think it's yet another example of actors specializing in comedy not getting the props they deserve. Although, sometimes, people just HAVE to take notice (like O'Hara's Oscar nod for CONSIDERATION.)

re: 'Best in Show' fans unite

I thought O'hara was snubbed for "Consideration".
She was, IMO, the most deserving of the award that year.

Anyway, this thread is so awesome, it goes to 11!
....but the world goes 'round

re: 'Best in Show' fans unite

Yep, I agree about O'Hara also.

Back to Guest-he nailed it with Corky and let's not forget he had that whole director thing down pat in Consideration.

As long as we're handing out props-how about Eugene Levy?
