Jane - I've always loved Levy. But I wasn't prepared for his work in MIGHTY WIND - he actually had me sobbing at a couple of points. SO melancholy a performance, and so completely real. I couldn't look in his eyes a couple of times, as they seemed to convey a wistful sadness for days-gone-by that HE felt, and let the character feel along with him. Honestly, maybe it was the frame of mind I was in, but it absolutely stunned me.

That being said, I know people think Nathan Lane is the 'keeper of the borscht belt humor', but I think it's actually Gene.

I agree with everything previously said. Eugene Levy is absolutely one of my favorites...I can even forgive him for continuing to sign up for those atrocious American Pie sequels because of how good he is when he's in the right movie.

Taz - Fred is an acquaintance of ours, and he's a complete sweetheart. Very unassuming. But VERY aware of what he can do, and how to do it!

DG-We're on the same page tonight. I also can't watch Levy in MIghty Wind. My reason is personal, though. His portrayal is even more real than you think.

It's definitely different, Taz, that's for sure. I felt it hit closer to home for them than they realized.

But, as a songwriter, you HAD to love the music! It really gave me the best laugh of the whole movie.

Neither did I, Taz. I didn't see anything funny about it, but that's another issue.

I think this is my order of favorites-1. Best in Show
2. Guffman
3.Consideration
4.Spinal Tap
5.Mighty Wind

I think Mighty Wind is actually my favorite, because it was the one that made me care about the characters most. And I watch it and cry at the kiss scene. I'm a p*ssy.

The one that my friends like most is actually Guffman. I don't know, I like it a lot, but it's a little uneven for me. A friend did a full production of Red, White, and Blaine as a senior project, though, which is AWESOME.

The only problem I have with GUFFMAN is I know ALL of those characters - and they aren't ALWAYS funny!

In fact, at one point in my life, I'm sure some people thought I was Corky.

LOL, I just thought of a moment in Guffman which is making me laugh right out loud now.

Remember when Corky is playing the bongo drum and Levy has this red bandana? First-remember how clumsy he was when he was dancing alone =LOLOLOL

And then, when he threw the bandana around the gals and then he threw it around the guy, which was naughty, so he did it twice to make sure everyone noticed? You had to be there but I laugh til I wheez.

Jennifer Coolidge is one of the only people in the world that pretty much makes me laugh at EVERYTHING she does or says. I don't think I could ever knowing her for real, because I would just die laughing all the time.

lol, I love when Ed Begley's character uses all those Yiddish slang words. So genius.

And yeah - Christopher Guest is a genius actor. And isn't he a baron or something?

I agree 100%. He was unbelievable. I'm used to him being funny...excellent, even. But he took it to a whole new level here and was just heartbreaking. Nomination-worthy, I think. I love every second of that movie!

Jane, the scene that kills me every time in "Guffman" is at the end, when Corky is showing off his "My Dinner with Andre" action figures.

"For Your Consideration" was the only Guest film that left me totally disappointed. O'Hara was the only bright light.

Blue-I noticed a blooper in that last scene. The header said "New York City", but if you look out the window of the store, it's clearly not NY. Looks like LA-cars are parked diagonally and it's very suburb looking out there.
