Jordan, I know what you mean re: "The Wonder Years" finale!
No. That would have been a horrible ending.
THE WONDER YEARS Finale. NSFW Since You'll Have An Emotional Breakdown.
But I wanted Winnie and Kevin together!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't. Even back then then when I was 13 or so, I knew that this was the more honest and realistic ending for this series. And it really is perfect.
Six Feet Under.
I do not remember the Roseanne ending at all?
The Roseanne ending totally made up for the terrible last season. It was so risky, so clever and I cried my eyes out.

It's no contest for me. The final minutes of the Six Feet Under finale were exquisite.
I also loved Cheers and Family Ties.

Here are mine in order:
Mary Tyler Moore
Newhart
M*A*S*H
Because of the profound impact of MTM and MASH at an impressionable age, I admit that I have tuned in for series finales for the occasional show I never saw before and bawled my eyes out through those, too.
CHUCK... when Chuck and Sarah sitting on the beach thinking about their future was amazing
BUFFY - outrunning Sunnydale falling into the HellHole was amazing too!!
Buffy let me down--but in hindsight I think that was more a reflection of how mixed I was for all of season 7. I liked the Angel finale much more.
i know alot of fans didnt like all the slayerettes, but i did like the darker Buffy.
Angel was great too... how great is it that Connor is on Mad Men, Fred is on Person of Interest, Darla was on Dexter all those years, and Angel is on Bones, though i cant stand that show!

The MARY TYLER MOORE finale for me -- it just got everything right.
Here's a question: what show was the first to do a full-out series finale? I can't really think of any before the MTM episode. THE FUGITIVE, maybe?

I remember before MTM aired, I think they were saying The Fugitive was one of the only series finales. The story went that series finales harmed a show's syndication chances because the characters were generally no longer in an endless loop with no ending, like those poor castaways on Ginger's Island.
It drove me crazy as a kid that we knew none of the Gilligan's Island people would get home. And then they sent them to space!

You know, I forgot to add Roseanne to my list. It was beautiful. It shouldn't have worked after that last season but it did. The woman really did pull it out of the fire.
Namo- agree w all of your choices.( Roseanne a tich less than the others)
As a nurse I disliked the St. Elsewhere ending but liked the er finale(s). ( course I had issues w lots of the other er episodes)
