With the office coming to an end, it made me think back on prior finale episodes. My favorite was the Golden Girls. My least favorite was Seinfeld. Any other opinions?

St. Elsewhere. They ended by showing us that the entire series had been in the mind of an autistic boy.
NEWHART's season finale flashback to THE BOB NEWHART SHOW. (For you kids, the finale of Bob Newhart's second sitcom revealed the entire series to be a dream had by Bob Newhart's character in his FIRST sitcom!) (Sorry, Jordan, we were posting at the same time.)
Personally, I never got tired of watching the final episode of THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW. "It's a long way to Tipperary...", indeed!

I also liked the Sopranos finale where the audience ended up being a victim of a mob hit!
MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW has the best series finale of all-time.

I always loved the finale of The Cosby Show. The chemistry between Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad was always wonderful throughout the series, and that final moment as they shared a final dance, then broke the fourth wall to show Bill escorting Phylicia off the set was just magic. I just rewatched it on Hulu before posting and still, some 20 years later, got choked up a little bit.

i agree with the Cosby Show
some of my other favorites
Smallville i felt had a great finale... one of the only shows i've ever watched for its entire run... never once skipping a seasons... only missing one episode because my DVR messed up
i don't care what others say... i loved the LOST finale
Battlestar Galactica (the new one)
Spartacus
and CHUCK... goodness that finale had me choked up! the writers completely were ballsy with how they decided to end that show!
and Fringe gets an honorable mention
Roseanne, Melrose Place
MASH was pretty epic -- but I love some of your other suggestions, particularly Newhart. MTM was pretty awesome as well.
By the time it had run its course no one was watching it, but ELLEN had an incredible final episode that featured Beatrice Arthur and Dianne Carrol, among others.

I have to agree with Jordan and GavestonPS here. The first show I thought of soon as I saw the thread title was NEWHART. Perfection.
I totally forgot about the Cosby Show. That was a great moment.
And I'm probably the one person (alive in the 80s) that didn't see the MASH finale.
The last five minutes of ROSEANNE was 5 of the best and most risky moments in all of sitcom history.
Six Feet Under, and I liked the Sopranos too (though I obviously get everyone's issues with it).
Newhart, Six Feet Under and Roseanne.
Roseanne because when I saw the (re-run) I had to chart all of the possible changes. Did certain characters even exist? Were certain characters entirely different people to serve the Roseanne's work?

I admit I don't feel the love for the Roseanne finale that some of you have, but then I really didn't like that whole final season, so no surprise there that the finale was more of a "really?" moment for me.

Yes, that was good storytelling.
I've blocked the ending of THE WONDER YEARS out of my mind. If I even attempt to think about it, I start to sob and don't stop for the entire day.
Also, I loooooooooooooooove the last 2 minutes of GROWING PAINS. The instrumental theme song is GORGEOUS and Carol's "goodbye" makes me cry every time. Every second of it is perfect. And I can't believe it's been 21 years since that aired.
