Though I would in most circumstances leap to agree with you, it's really Live Nation, Madonna's overlords and now U2's overlords. Even worse U2 is now being managed by Guy Orseary, Madonna's old manager and now big Live Nation mucky muck. The only sense I can make of it is they are grabbing as much as they can now before everything collapses and nobody has ANY money left to spend on one evening at a concert what thirty years ago would have cost for one concert a week for four months. It is not a sustainable model.

When I saw it was only $1300 per seat for Bette Midler's Front Row Experience, I was reminded of Madonna's meltdown in Truth or Dare where she's yelling at her manager because all she can see in the front row is "industry, Freddie, INDUSTRY." It must be really weird for a performer to play directly to folks whose corporate employers have plopped them down within the field of vision of performers they may have absolutely no interest in at all.

For those of you that are in Florida, the Tampa show (May 11) which already had lower prices than South Florida has a TravelZoo discount for close to half off some ticket prices. The code is TZOO. I just scored a lower level second row seat for less than$100. (When I used my $10 Ticketmaster survey money).

Dame, I saw this in Tampa last night. It was my first time seeing Bette perform live, so I have nothing to compare this tour to other tours. With the exception of the nasty, but funny, Sophie Tucker jokes and her sassy (with the occasional f word thrown in) banter with the audience, I would say this was still a tamer version of previous shows. There were occasional costume changes, but never at the quantity of say a Cher or Diana Ross show. I really had a problem with the setlist. The first half of the show consisted of songs from the new cd, songs from Beaches (that I didn't remember) and some Rosemary Clooney covers. The second half consisted of hits that I knew, including two songs from The Rose. Overall I enjoyed the Sophie Tucker jokes and the banter shtick more. If I had to give this a grade, for me, a B-. There was no opening act. The concert was supposed to start at 8:00.,but started at 8:45. We were out of the arena and at the parking lot at 10:45. I assume the show was one hour, fifty minutes. You are a bigger fan of her, than me. I would still recommend this tour. I just didn't gel with all the songs I didn't know.

Thanks @Artsman. I have a friend that went and summed it up pretty close to what you said. He said it was fun but not one of her more memorable shows. I gather from twitter that major changes in the set list are going in this week before the New Orleans engagement.

I caught Bette's Divine Intervention show on it's stop in Atlanta last night. Bette looked and sounded great and the band and Harlettes were terrific. This is my fourth time seeing Bette live - she still has 'it' and is the consummate entertainer. Bette really hasn't been on tour in ten years and seemed genuinely touched by the positive response and love she received from the audience. Bette isn't a kid anymore - she will be turning 70 later this year and still gives 100% effort. Her Delores DeLago character has 'passed away' ("Like hell I'm getting in that mermaid fin outfit at my age')- but her Sophie Tucker is still as ribald as ever. No 'Friends' and "Do You want to Dance' in this setlist, but there is still a nice combination of Bette classics, girl group songs from the newest CD and other chestnuts. Bette's homage to "Hocus Pocus'- 'I Put a Spell on You' was an unexpected hoot. The evening was a lot of fun and very worthwhile. Go.

When I saw her in the "De Tour" in the 80s she came off the stage and into the audience twice during her show. The first time she came down the aisle I was sitting in and went into the row in front of me and sat on the lap of a man to the right of me then proceeded to lean back to where her face was right in front of mine. I could see her sweat, her makeup running and her bright red hair. I wanted to pick her upm throw her over my shoulder and take her away. I lifted my hand up to touch her shoulder and I got two inches away from it and froze, it was like there was a forcefield around her that I couldn't touch her. It was pretty amazing...

Thanks, Junglered. Those were the same songs she did in Tampa. I don't know why the Tampa setlist included Be My Baby. BTW, if you purchased your tickets from Ticketmaster, you get a physical copy of the new cd. They send you an email.

Dame, I would say the visuals are minimal. The Hocus Pocus set is neat. There are minimal costume changes. There are two screens. Be careful not to be to close on the sides or you won't be able to see the screens. I would check for groupon and travel zoo discounts in your area. My concert, (Tampa) the seating was cut off due to lack of sales. They claim 9,000 but I would say more like 6,000 in attendance. I got a really good seat for less than $100 and my friend got the second section for $49 plus fees, through travelzoo.

Where do you live and which show are you going to? BTW, if you want a tshirt they are $40 and up. I didn't buy one, but my friend did.

Thank you Artman. It is tempting to go twice. But the drive to Orange County on a Friday is not something I would willingly subject myself to do. Going to the show at Staples.
