Here are my choices for supporting cast:

Kyra Sedgwick as Endora
Nathan Lane as Maurice
John Cleese as Doctor Bombay
Doris Roberts as Aunt Clara
Laurie Metcalfe as Esmerelda
Leslie Jordan as Uncle Arthur
Faith Prince as Mrs. Kravitz
Kelly Bishop as Darren's mother

I think Doris Roberts is about the least dotty actress on earth.

I think someone more like Katherine Helmond for Aunt Clara.

"I think Doris Roberts is about the least dotty actress on earth."

What you read as dotty, I read as confused. Roberts could definitely play confused.

I suppose. I guess I've only ever seen her play aggressive.

What about Betty White as Aunt Clara?

And after seeing Barbara Eden's character on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, I think she'd make a BRILLIANT Endora!

Betty White can play anything, and she'd be a great Aunt Clara.

I love the idea of Kelly Bishop as Darrin's mother!
Uncle Arthur = Sean Hayes
Mrs. Kravitz = Jackie Hoffman

EDIT: And for the casting coup of the season ... Emma Thompson as Endora and Kenneth Brannagh as Maurice!

And now that Desperate Housewives is wrapping up next season, I think they should turn Wysteria Lane into Morning Glory Circle.

Besty, that's hysterical.

What about Nathan Lane as Uncle Arthur?

Dana Ivey as Hepzabah (and all the other Jane Connell roles)?

I believe Sean Hayes has pretty much gone out of his way to avoid a part that would make you think Jack McFarland ever again. Shame, he would have been a great Uncle Arthur.

Nathan Lane would be a great Uncle Arthur, Reg!

I think the trickiest part to cast would be Darrin.

I always liked the idea of Jim Carrey, but that was ten years ago. Eric McCormick isn't quite right, and then if it's Anniston (in my mind), I was thinking about Jon Hamm. But I don't think he's "unhinged" enough for it (in that oh, so serious way).

I can't come up with a really great Darrin.

CANCEL THE SERIES!

EDIT: Oh, and Goth, I LOVE the idea of John Cleese as Dr. Bombay!

Ashton Kutcher would be a good Darrin...a different one, sure, but there's no point in replicating everything exactly. Jon Cryer would be great too.

Yep, both good.

I might be leaning toward Paul Rudd.

You know I think you might be right...I really like Ashton Kutcher - Paul Rudd not so much, but just the right amount for him not to overshadow Samantha.

I think Jon Hamm has done goofy well but those moments have been in small bits. A weekly, stretched moment of that will still be harder for viewers used to his slicked back, dark, womanizing Don Draper drinking and smoking a cigarette. With that said if his movie career never takes off I could definitely see his next venture being a network comedy.

I am pretty sure Jim Carrey was original cast as Darrin in the movie which was almost too good to be true with both his physical comedy necessary for the role and the fact he is a near dead ringer of Dick York.

Jason Bateman (no idea if he wants to return back to TV) or Will Forte could be good choices.

As long as we're not worried about prior commitments or reality, Ty Burrell would be the perfect Darrin.

Our Darrin has been found.

May I present: Jay Harrington

He was almost playing the Darrin role on Better Off Ted

Part of the problem is there were so many cast changes on Bewitched that it's hard to pinpoint a characterization.

Do we take the spastic Darrin of Dick York or do we take the demure Darrin of Dick Sargent.

Do we take the spastic Mrs. Kravitz of Alice Pearce or the calmer Mrs. Kravitz of Sandra Gould?

And which Louise Tate do we go with?

Answers:

York instead of Sergeant (I wouldn't call him "demure" either. York was more unhinged and Sergeant was more slow-boil, but I prefer the unhinged Darrin---it was funnier)

Pearce instead of Gould (but I'd actually prefer a mix)

And Kasey Rogers, definitely.

Monica Horan would make a wonderful Esmeralda. And speaking of Jay Harrington, I think teaming him up again with Portia de Rossi as Samantha would be inspired! Jessica Walter would be an excellentEndora. How about Ellen Degeneres as Aunt Clara?

Well, Ellen's decades younger than Marion Lorne, but I could see her having a great take on Aunt Clara. Almost like her Finding Nemo character.

I don't think Portia is right for Samantha at all. I still can't think of anybody better than Jennifer Anniston.
