"The Bible clearly teaches that God created marriage between male and female as a divine gift that preserves families and cultures. “Since I love and follow Him, I cannot put my signature on something that is against God.'

Best way to separate church from state is to get them the hell out.
Don't take a government job if you can't do that, lady. What were you thinking?
Buh-bye!
Hope her god doesn't let the door hit her on the way out.
Western New York with the Finger Lakes and Niagara Falls could see a lot business with wedding receptions and honeymoons with the passage of the bill. Did she ever really think her beliefs could trump a lot of potential wedding business in that area?

I wonder if she eats shellfish and keeps silent in her church.
The bible clearly teaches her that, too.
Um duh. She doesn't have to obey those laws because they're outdated. Geez, Besty. Go to church an learn something!
I'm gonna take a really wild guess that her hair is outdated, too.
Jordan, the door's gonna hit 'er where the good lord split 'er!
Praise Jesus and pass the shrimp!
Stupid cow. It is amazing how people can have such moronic and irrational mindsets - the people who burned witches in Salem are still around.
Jordan, you took the words outta my mouth. I was going to say "Don't let the door hit ya on the arse on the way out!"
It really should be part of the screening process: "Do you hold any religious beliefs that would prevent you doing your job as the law requires?"
And I know I sound like an ass, but it's an area of interest of mine: Witches were hanged in Salem (and pressed, at least once, which sounds like a joke, but isn't), not burned.
That said, I agree with you 100 percent, Jay, and "stupid cow" sums it up beautifully.
I know what you said, but I want this one BURNED.
Goody Sanctimonious Bitch is a witch! Press her!!!
How could they be sure that the witches were actually dead if they only hanged them?
I mean, doesn't burning really seems more...final.
Or drowning! Didn't they know about witches and water?
Actually I applaude this woman. She holds beliefs thatdoesn't go with her job and what the law requires so she stepped down. We aren't going to change the way she feels. Isn't it better tha she leaves office of her own choosing?

I think her decision is laudable and just fine. In fact, it's that type of dynamic that I wish we could make more commonplace.
Don't agree with the civil law? Fine - don't participate in a state-sponsered capacity. We have GOT to get away from the 'god is in the mix' parameter.
Don't want to provide prescriptions based on moral grounds because of your religion (as in birth control)? Fine - get another job.
Oh, and the next step NEEDS to be removing religion as a government sanctioned tax haven. Want to carry on your business according to arbitrary rules that your CHOSEN religion espouses? Fine - but you don't get assistance from the state. Period.

I just can't believe that every single marriage she signed off on up to this point was sanctioned by her God. She never once let a marriage license go to someone who had been married before? Every single license resulted in a church marriage? That seems inconceivable to me.

SNAFU - we seem to be on at least partially the same page - at the same(ish) time, no less
She is obviously brainwashed by religion so I'm not going to comment on her beliefs but I think it was very bold for her to step down.
