It took me over 2 hours to get home tonight. (Total = 2.5 hours. Two hours in a car and a half hour of walking)
I flew in from Chicago early early this morning (I may have been the last flight to land at LaGuardia), so had a bag with me. I ordered a car for 4:45pm from the office (where I went after I landed). My trip, by car, at that time of night typically takes 20 minutes. It was the worst gridlock I've seen in my entire life. We, literally, did not move.
There was not a single traffic cop at any of the important intersections. Not a single one.
Traffic cops are there on the best of days. They are critical on the worst of days.
deBlasio is saying that they can't plow because of the traffic.
The traffic is absolutely locked.
I have NO IDEA why they don't have traffic cops out to help move the traffic along, so they can plow and tend to the streets.
I finally got out of the car and walked about 15 blocks. Even with my overnight suitcase. It was dangerously slippy, and the cars, in their gridlock rage, were all but running pedestrians down.
I live near an entrance to a major bridge. The chorus of horns hasn't stopped. I wouldn't be surprised if someone gets violent. It's that insane.
So, what I am doing for the blizzard? I'm composing my strongly worded letter to whoever I need to contact regarding the lack of proper traffic management.
And I've just poured a very large glass of wine.
Over two hours in a car.
(From Broadway and Fulton to Third Avenue and 42nd Street - which is where I finally bailed on the ride).
"Two drifters off to see the world. There's such a lot of world to see. . ."
