In case anyone is interested. This is not a personal reccommendation as 1. I am not young, gay OR a man. 2. I haven't read it.
It was on a reading list I was looking at, and figured it might be of interest.
Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin.
Please find the humor in this:
I'm wondering how many books I could add to this thread based on the fact that 1. I don't personally recommend them, and 2. I haven't read them.
^ I hear ya! :)
I don't usually put things "out there" that aren't personal reccommendations, but I don't read a lot of gay fiction.
I've posted the link below that brings you to the list from which the above title came. There are actually a few gay titles listed.
Need to get your summer reading list in order?

I bet John Irving is involved in your list, dramamama. I read Giovanni's Room immediately after finishing In One Person. Shame on me for never getting around to it before now.
Giovanni's Room was originally published in '56
Mea Culpa on the date, I guess that was the release date of whatever edition I was looking at on Amazon. Funny, I thought it sounded like it was an older novel, and was suprised on the date. I guess I should have followed my instint before posting.)
Fixed the original post....
One of my all time favorite books...James Baldwin is a personal hero of mine. Always carried a copy of this book with me...juz 'cuz!
I sorta lived "Giovanni's Room"..it was called "Kevin's Room" and it took place in Harlem.

It's a beautiful book, one I have read and would recommend.
It annoys me that still often James Baldwin is held up as a black hero--and his sexuality is still conveniently ignored.

In One Person is probably one of the most beautiful books I have ever heard.
GIOVANNI'S ROOM is a beautiful and powerful book.
Like most books of its day, it may portray gay life as more depressing than some modern gays prefer. But viewed as a product of its era, you can safely recommend it, drama mama.
I devoured In One Person last summer. Gorgeous.
The gay book store in Philadelphia is named Giovanni's Room. It is now the oldest gay and lesbian bookstore in the country and was founded in 1973. http://www.giovannisroom.com/
Happy reading!
