Posted: 5/25/11 at 7:41pmI like the live version better too. Seeing her do it in concert is what made me first love the song. I still love the album version though. And I prefer it to the Country Roads version of Born This Way. But I think that's because "Country Roads" reminds me of "Country Strong" which reminds me of Gwenyth Paltrow. Something I never want to be reminded of.

For those interested, it's back to 99 cents today on Amazon, for one day only.

I figured they did it initially so they could say "most downloaded album ever in a single day."
Then they screwed it up with so many technical issues. If you look at the feedback on Amazon, a lot of people bought the album for 99 cents, and then it only allowed them to download one or two songs before stopping.
This sounds like an "apology" sale ... to both Gaga and the customers ... for screwing it up.

I got the CDs yesterday and Im on the the third listen through. My initial reaction is very positive, but this is not bland pop, its going to take a while for me to fully engage the style, lyrics and overstimulation of many of the tracks.
Most of the songs are not catching me instantly the way FAME MONSTER and THE FAME did. Both of those albums I was hooked after one listen.
I think the lyrics are much harder to discern on this CD. I like the 80s feel of the tracks and Im impressed with all she has done with the sound.
I don't think these CDs will harbor as many hits though. The tracks feel slightly overproduced but so was much of the music of the 80s.
Im looking forward to getting more into the songs and the lyrics and understanding them better. I am appreciative that Gaga is challenging me to think, unlike Britney's last album which I love all the tracks but there is absolutely no depth or growth or challenge-all fluff.
However, Gaga's unending self promotion is getting a little old. I am about to hit the wall with seeing her everywhere.

The album's on track to sell anywhere from 800,000 to a million opening week and apparently at least 300,000 of that is from Amazon.
The lyrics seem secondary here...it's the whole sound of the thing that's fascinating to me.

I think she's actually outdone herself with this album. Not as many potential top 40 hits, true, but what I'm hearing is a richer, more personal and textured sound from an artist who is just getting started.
I think tracks like "Marry the Night", "Hair", "Bloody Mary", "You and I", and "Edge of Glory" are some of her very best.

Posted: 5/30/11 at 9:52amMy son just downloaded "Born This Way" to his i-pod yesterday, and I downloaded "Edge of Glory" to mine. So far those are the only ones I've heard and I love them both.

I love 'You and I' when she sings it live at the piano. On the recording however, not so much. I usually don't listen to it. My favorite was from her performance last summer at the Today show.

Apparently Amazon ended up spending about $3 million on the 99 cent deal, as it still had to pay the record company the full wholesale price for the albums.
Also, the final numbers are out and she sold 1.1 million copies this week, the highest since 2005.

Posted: 6/1/11 at 6:44pmI really like what I've heard, though some tracks seem borne out of hard work rather than true musical inspiration. I still don't fully understand Gaga's mainstream appeal. My own interests seldom correspond with the mass market!
