Posted: 3/4/06 at 6:27pmI love the "He's only 12" excuse. I knew not to stick my gum on a painting long before I was 12. They should make the school/parents pay for the repair.
#4re: Boy sticks gum on a painting
Posted: 3/4/06 at 6:32pmYeah, 12 is not an excuse. 2, maybe. 12, no way.
#5re: Boy sticks gum on a painting
Posted: 3/4/06 at 6:33pmYeah, since most kids nowadays are parents by the time they're 12, it is definitely no excuse.

"Yeah, since most kids nowadays are parents by the time they're 12, it is definitely no excuse."
Bobby- that was great! haha
But seriously- let alone the actual action...the excuse was above and beyond ridiculous.

12 year olds DEFINITELY know better than this.
I can't believe the museum WOULDN'T sue. This is the reason kids feel like they can do any damn thing they want to.

God. His parent's punishment was probably something like "No Xbox for a week" or something pathetic like that. If he's 12 years old and thinks that is appropriate behavior, they probably aren't doing the best job raising him in the first place.
The museum should have made the kid do volunteer work picking up trash.

#18re: Boy sticks gum on a painting
Posted: 3/4/06 at 6:58pmThat's too nice. The kid should be paying for the painting - from the time he starts working his wages should be docked until it's paid for. Someone this bright, it might be his whole life -- so be it.
#19re: Boy sticks gum on a painting
Posted: 3/4/06 at 6:59pmThey probably reduced his allowance to 1,000 bucks a week.

Posted: 3/4/06 at 7:00pmThat 12 year old is officially my hero! I can't even begin to count the number of times I've wanted to destroy something everyone else thought to be so great and just laugh in their faces. I'm some what of a sadist...
#21re: Boy sticks gum on a painting
Posted: 3/4/06 at 7:02pmSorry jasonf, I meant to include that his parents should have to pay for the damages. I just thought that from their "12 year olds don't understand" perspective, this would have been a completely appropriate punishment for the kid to learn a lesson, instead of letting him off completely.

#22re: Boy sticks gum on a painting
Posted: 3/4/06 at 7:05pmI can testify to this "12 year old is not an excuse thing". I'm 13, and I would have NEVER EVER even think about doing something that stupid and immature.
