"I just think that story is funny and a little out of the conventional ways I loathe...I'm just weird like that I guess."

Weird isn't exactly the word I thought of when I read your comments on this.

You loathe conventional ways? Aren't you cool! Conventional also is another word that didn't come to my mind when preserving art is concerned.

While I have no doubt the boy knew that sticking his gum on a museum painting was wrong, I would be surprized if he knew how costly and time-consuming the repair actually is. But suing a twelve year old is as ridiculous as the actual crime itself.

Since we don't know the punishment meted out by his parents I don't think anyone can make sweeping judgement about the poor job parents are doing today.Nor about any lessons he might have learned from this. And really, having him watch the whole restorative process? Should he be taken out of school for this sentence or should we make the restorers work around the boy's school schedule?

There are more effective ways to teach a kid art appreciation, respect for property, and wasting others' time by dragging him into a lawsuit. You might prove a point by doing this, but it won't turn him into an art lover by any means.

Maybe museum securtiy and theater ushers should be armed with tranquilizer or non-lethal guns for the next person who touches a painting or uses a cell phone in a theater.

This is terrible.

But it IS the size of a quarter.

AND...people ARE starving.

The smallest stream is a valent river. It will drown me if it can.

"Oh, I too love art but something about that story makes me laugh non-stop."

I guess I'm still not seeing the humor. I fail to understand how someone can come to a theater web site, celebrating an art form, and exhibit so little respect to damage done to another art medium. Perhaps the 12 year old youth didn't realize the ramifications of his actions, but what I find more distasteful is someone like Burlesquebabe thinking this was funny.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

I was taught from the time that I was old enough to chew gum that it is incredibly rude to stick your gum ANYWHERE but in a trash can. My parents would kill me if I even stuck it under a table (which I personally think is disgusting). I can't fathom what 12 year old thinks it is all right to stick your gum in a public place. The only 12 excuse is ridiculous to me. He knew exactly what he was doing, especially since I'm sure there were various "Do Not Touch The Art" and "Don't Eat or Drink" signs posted.

Oh, I couldn't care less if this kid becomes an art lover, and I doubt if others care either. That isn't the point. He needs to learn other lessons.
