I wondered what anyone who has seen this movie- starring Hillary Swank- thinks about it. I just watched it on HBO, and by the end, was moved to tears. A stunning, touching movie about transexuals, homophobia, and true love. I loved it. My description may sound weird, but it was amazing. Anyone else's opinion's?

Please don't bash me, I know it may be out of place on this board, but it is Off Topic, and I was so moved by it, I need more opinions. I was weeping by the end.

This is exactly where it belongs wb4.
The movie devestated me. I remember when it was over I had to go and sit in a starbucks until I was composed. Swank gave one of the most heart wrenching performances I have ever seen.

Posted: 7/26/08 at 12:38amPersonally, I thought it was a bit disjointed (or maybe I think that 'cause they took liberties with the true story, which I knew going in), but Swank's poignant portrayal really anchored the movie for me.

Posted: 7/26/08 at 12:39amI have not seen it in a long time, but as Taz said, I was devastated by the end of it. I knew the story, but watching it play out so effectively brought the horror to life anew.

Posted: 7/26/08 at 1:00amI know they really toned down the girlfriend and her family. All those involved in the situation were a lot rougher around the edges than perceived in the movie. At least that was my take on the real interviews I saw. The movie/story still floored me.

Posted: 7/26/08 at 1:12amThere was a third person (a guy) killed along with Brandon and Lisa (Candace in the movie), and Lana was not at the murder scene. In fact, the real Lana sued the producers for putting her at the scene of the crime and not doing anything afterward.

Posted: 7/26/08 at 1:46amI got the, "Why the hell did you buy THAT movie?" question from my mom. I just looked at her. She knew damn well why I bought THAT movie.

I saw it when it first came out. I remember it as being an intense film with some great acting by Swank and an impressive independent film to even get noticed by the Academy.
But it is too intense for me to want to see again for a while. It's not a film I'll purchase. That and Monster. Rentals for subsequent viewings, when I get around to it...

Posted: 7/26/08 at 4:03amI saw Boys don't Cry on an Airplane the first time (it was first class with those little TV's in the arm rests where you can choose what to watch and for some reason, despite being on an airplane it was unedited) and it was crazy powerful. I didn't watch it again until about 2 years ago and it was still so emotionally upsetting. Swank and Sevigny(sp) were amazing.

Posted: 7/26/08 at 8:22amI cried my eyes out at that movie. It was amazingly powerful, and yes, Hilary Swank was great in it.

There is a very interesting and insightful documentary available, The Brandon Teena Story, which was released shortly before Boys Don't Cry and illuminates some of the actual facts of the case.
I definitely believe that Hilary Swank's performance will go down as one of the finest in the history of cinema.

I agree, this documentary was amazing. You also see how spot on Chloe Sevigny is with her performance.

That is such an excellent point! And ever since I saw The Godfather I won't step foot above the Mason Dixon line.

LOL Taz!
I have to say that Hillary Swank's performance in that film is awe-inspiring. (notice I avoided the word 'awesome' but that's what I mean!).
That one scene at police headquarters when they're questioning him/her after the rape is one of the finest example of acting I have ever seen in my life.
