When I heard that the movie Arthur was going to be made with Russell Brand in the title role, it seemed like an awful idea, even with Helen Mirren as Hobson. However, this weekend I saw the trailer for it, and it looks like it has potential.
Fun fact: this makes two roles in two years that Mirren is cast in roles previously played by John Gielgud (The Tempest and Arthur).
I felt exactly the same way but these trailers are starting to grow on me and I think it's going to be pretty damn good.
The commercials running make it look like a stinking pile of poo.
I think this film looks terrible! ARTHUR is one of my all time favorites.
Why does Hollywood continue to remake good films?
I would love to see a remake of ISHTAR or HUDSON HAWK. How challenging would it be to remake a bad movie and some how make it good? They remake good films with the intention they are either A) Making them better than the original or B)introducing them to a younger audience who is to lazy to go out and rent the original.
the challenge to remaking hudson hawk is to find an a-list actress who can speak to the dolphins the way andie could.

I think a lack of interest, (in the era, in the song stylings of Christopher Cross, in [I know this is impossible for most people here to conceive] looking at the very countenance of Liza Minnelli) could account for more than laziness.
So, there's no Linda in this one?
Arthur;s "other woman" goes by another name in this version, and they pushing Garner as Susan in the promos.
Liza & Jill Eikenberry, ftw.
Based on the previews I do not have a good feeling about this. It's lacking that "something"
I actually think the previews I saw at the theatre were pretty funny. Greta Gerwig is playing the Liza Minnelli role, her name is Naomi in this version. I imagine Jennifer Garner's might have been beefed up in this adaptation, which I think is a smart move (why cast an A-lister in a role owned by Liza?). I wasn't a fan when I heard about it, but the previews have me somewhat convinced to at least give the movie a chance. We'll see how it turns out.
Interestingly enough, the John Gielgud role was re-written to be a female in the hopes that Meryl Streep would take the part but from what I read she turned it down after they made an offer. Helen Mirren looks pretty funny in it though.

I think it looks terrible. And in theory I don't think it's a terrible idea, at least the Helen Mirren part. I really can't sand Russell Brand, though, and I have a hard time looking directly at him.
It's because his forehead is practicing mind control.
I think Russell Brand is kinda hot. There I said it.

You're never more than a McDonald's drive thru away from going back to that.
Wow. I graduated grammar school with a kid that looked exactly like the young fat Russell Brand.
I love the original movie, but this looks like fun. I love Russle Brand and he's a great fit for the role. It's not going to come anywhere near the original, of course.
Russell Brand was a fat kid? Really? I never would have guessed.
I loved, loved, loved the original Arthur and typically I am very skeptical about remakes. But I think this would have alot of potential to update this classic. I didn't automatically like Russell Brand too much, but he is growing on me. His mama at the Oscars was simply stunning.
