Have you all heard about that guy who owns a restaurant here in NYC whose wife supplied him with her breast milk and he made cheese out of it? I'm not sure if he featured it in his restaurant or if he sold any, but he's been ordered not to by the Board of Health.
thanks god. How gross.

Is it honestly that horrible to consider eating a dairy product made from milk from our own species? Although I won't run out and do it, it doesn't offend me. Why is it more acceptable to eat dairy from another species?
I mean dairy is one of the main contributors to the obesity epidemic. People eat too much dairy from cows. Cow's milk is meant to sustain 1,000 pound animals not humans. We might fare better if we ingested human breast milk.
Why would be gross to use diary from a women who is not our mother? Is a nameless cow our mother?
Once you get past the "eww" factor, it does make some sense.

I'm not ew'd by it at all.
Jane just like to complain about things she doesn't like.
She's like Barb that way.

Listen, someone has to do the complaining and I feel that it's my job.
Anyway, I can't explain why, but it does make me ewwwww and cow cheese doesn't.
Barb who?

Posted: 3/9/10 at 8:07pmI ADORE Jane and she can complain about whatever she likes. We respect each other even though we don't always agree. Plus she's a damn good photographer! :)

Oh yeah, Barb for Minnesota. Of course!
Also - I'm not grossed out by cow's and goat's milk cheeses. Most of us do eat those animals. I'm not accustomed to eating anything from a fellow human's body.

Posted: 3/9/10 at 8:09pmThanks Bettyboy, and I agree, it's mutual with us. But don't fret - that guy Biff doesn't bother me at all. It's fine. but thanks! xoxox

Posted: 3/9/10 at 8:10pmSo eating cheese made from a woman's breast milk is a form of cannibalism? Is that what you're saying?

Yes, Biff, cannibalism! whatever you think, is right!
Anyway, can we get back to the topic? I'd love to hear other opinions on it.

Posted: 3/9/10 at 8:13pmI've been to several holistic practitioners who frown upon any dairy. They say once you're no longer a baby you really dont need the condensed nutrients from milk if you eat a nutrient rich diet.

Posted: 3/9/10 at 8:24pmI know, but we love cheese!
#13Breast milk cheese
Posted: 3/9/10 at 8:25pmI guess in theory it's not that gross, but I know I wouldn't eat it.

Posted: 3/9/10 at 10:49pmThere's not another species on the planet that drinks the milk of any other species. There's also not another species that drinks milk beyond infancy. Why must cheese be so damn tasty?!

This is from the Journal of American Medical Association.

Conclusions: Dietary patterns characterized by increased dairy consumption have a strong inverse association with IRS among overweight adults and may reduce risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Are you sure this isn't an urban legend or something? I was overcome by curiosity a few months back and spent far more time than can possibly be normal researching the idea of breast milk cheese, and I didn't find a single convincing instance of anyone managing to achieve it. :/

Posted: 3/10/10 at 9:26amWeez, I saw it reported on tv. they showed the guy in his restaurant, and his wife at home. They gave a piece of cheese to one of the tv reporters and she ate it on the air.

Posted: 3/10/10 at 9:36amYeah it was on Channel 4 news here in the NY Metro area last night. They made sure to mention that cheese was never served or for sale in their restaurant. I know I shouldn't be grossed out by it...but it sure looked gross.

Posted: 3/10/10 at 9:48amWhy shouldn't you be grossed out by it? As adults, we are not meant to drink/eat from a woman's breast.

Adult humans aren't meant to drink/eat from a cow's udder, either, but cheese doesn't gross you out. Humans eat the unborn offspring of other animals (veal, eggs). It's all in the perspective. I haven't read this particular story, but it is far from the first time someone's done this. In this case, it sounds like a shock ad ploy for the guy's restaurant. Does anyone have a link to this particular story anywhere? I'd love to read it.
